That article was poorly written. It seemed like Kiley wrote that piece by taking a unanimously agreed upon premise ("scouts and stats are both good") and seemed to brainstorm anecdotes as he went along to support that position.
Overall, its hard to argue against any one thing in that article, but it was largely forgettable. I have always like Kiley, especially when he's on Cistulli's podcast as he has more of a flair for entertainment than Longenhangen. I would simply prefer he write these type of pieces moving forward where he elaborated more on the anecdotes he shared and provide specific industry examples.

Cole to Astros is "imminent".
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...
Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Return for Cole not yet known according to Morosi, but deal is agreed to.
Would be interested to find out if AA would have interest in Marte if the Pirates move him. Would certainly expect you could get him for far less than a Yelich-like return.

The Stros are unbeatable! lol
Interesting to see cole in the AL. His homers spiked last year. And it is not hard to hit them out in Houston. But if healthy he is a good 3 win pitcher.
Coppy
Good deal for the Astros if they held onto Tucker and Whitley. Considering the Yankees were willing to give up Frazier for Cole, it would make sense that the Astros had to step up with one of those 2 guys to beat out the Yankees offer...or maybe the Pirates just didn't like Frazier like me.
Dave Cameron leaving FG to lead up the Padres R&D department for player development. Damn.
Not a fan of Preller...at all.
Now we get to read stupid articles on FG like the most recent one from Meg Rowley about putting a penalty box in baseball, or the rambling nonsense from Kiley about scouts vs stats. Longenhagen is so slow putting out the prospect updates it smells of his attention being elsewhere.
I think we are seeing the end of the best days at FG.

Source: "No deal" for Gerrit Cole to Houston. "False rumor."
I do like Sawchick and Sullivan has been the best writer at FG for a few years now (IMO) . I would assume Sullivan takes up Cameron's mantle as Editor-in-Chief.
I would add that FG has increased its focus on podcasts in recent years and they have hired/partnered with some brilliant writers outside of the FG ecosystem - like Ben Lindbergh. I imagine that is the direction they will shift focus to moving forward.
I didn't realize Sawchik was full time with Fangraphs. Last I had really known he was on the Pirates beat. He covered Clemson for the Charleston paper for a few years is the only reason I vaguely have followed him. I guess he must be from Cleveland area since he is apparently doing semi-regular work on that beat for the Athletic.
