I think Freeman will play well into his mid to late 30's. Playing 1B should keep him healthier than any other position. We might have the DH by the time we get to his late 30's and early 40's. He has been a remarkably consistent hitter his whole career. He has never really gone on month long slums where he hits like Melvin. I think if we have a lot of team success with Freeman he will get in easily because he will be the face of the Braves during that period. Even if other players surpass him in performance he is still the face as long as he hits well. The thing that impresses me the most about Freeman is that the Mets, Phillies, and Nationals fan bases all believe Freeman kills them and only them. If I could find a marlin fan I am sure they would say the same.

Trout at 3 fWAR through 36 games. That's a current pace of 13.5 without missing any games. Bonds has the current modern record at 12.7. Would love to see Trout take that.

Adam Eaton has ankle surgery today and is questionable to return this year. Not that the guys they gave up has done much but getting 31 games in two years is ****ty. :)

Dumb that Gallo wouldn't go the other way. Could have an easy double.

Ballplayers aren't always the smartest. In certain situations you want the player to do what they do best even with the shift on. But with 0 outs then yeah take the easy double which likely leads to a run. They are literally giving it to you.

Players don’t have a career .250 BABIP because they are able to spray the ball with any consistency.

Couldn’t get the bunt down either.

I mean you don't have to hit with any authority. A hard bunt down the line could probably get you to 2nd.

Wouldn't and couldn't are two different things. My guess is with an extreme shift like that, the pitcher was intent on working inner half.

Ted Williams always tried to beat the shift with the logic that it would have been easy for him to get a single going to other way, but he felt that by doing that he was limiting himself. Of course, he was Ted Williams.

the OF is playing fairly normal so a double would actually be pretty difficult.

Evidently they think a single would be a win

My father’s favorite player. Evidently before the Braves moved to Atlanta the Red Sox were on the radio in South or something.

Anyone keeping tabs on the White Sox? Is there rebuild going well? The W-L is not really that important at this stage.

Of the three pitchers they got for Eaton, i guess Dane Dunning looks the best. Giolito looks terrible and Reynaldo Lopez looks meh. Dunning was really good in A+ this year, so/so so far in AA.
Kopech still looks like a stud, especially after last season. His ERA/FIP/xFIP are up this year, but he's 22 in AAA. Moncada has been really good, striking out a ton and has a really high BABIP.
i haven't really liked their 1st rd draft picks. Fulmer, Collins, Burdi, Burger are the last 4.
They may have nailed the Sale trade (depending on how Kopech and Moncada actually turn out long-term). But i think they totally flubbed the Eaton deal.
