when you have a couple pitchers like DeGrom and Syndegaard you always have a sluggers chance assuming you can make the playoffs...they have enough budget to surround them with a competent supporting cast...just hasn't worked out this year

Harper wants to play for the Braves so badly he is tanking his FA value so they can afford him.

I bet if we had DeGrom the offensive would shut down when he starts. Always seems to be the case when we have aces.

Phillies get: Manny Machado and Zach Britton
O’s get: JP Crawford, Adonis Medina, Cole Irvin, Connor Seabold

Sorry that’s too much for Hamels. I pass
Wait so (using fangraphs rankings) we trade the number 37 prospect in baseball to start the season, number 60 prospect, and a big upside prospect plus who knows what PTBNL would be involved. For Hamels and a reliever and no money. Or to use Sickels system, 3 B prospects, and a PTBNL. The Phillies trade 29th, 73rd, and a high upside pitcher and a low ceiling pitcher for Machado and reliever. Or a B+, a B and 2 C+ players.

Basically he's saying we should trade more for a more expensive lower quality starting pitcher because we're getting a better reliever? Or does he not value our guys very much?

He's either ignorant about prospects, or is trying to get folks like us to discuss his opinions.

    Probably a little of both.

I don't think he cares about people on message boards talking about him. Though I'm sure he likes retweets and dumb**** like that.

The idea is to get folks talking about his content, good or bad.

Call it "The Howard Stern Effect".

Yup. And most of the people that consume his content are ignorant baseball fans. No disrespect to anyone but if you aren't aware of surplus value and how it pertains to trades then you are ignorant on the subject. These types of fans likely see no issue with wild claims like this and call in to discuss and tell their friends, etc. Baseball fans that know how these things play out would instantly see that as trash and treat it as such. Think of it as a clickbait article.

Is there a reason a hypothetical trade would include a player to be named later? Seems weird.

Tim Tebow made the Eastern League All-Star team. And while the selection is mostly about marketing, Tebow is actually playing fairly well. Especially when you consider he's a 30 year old with 1 professional season under his belt and his 1st year in AA.
