Given the team's finances, it doesn't make sense to fish in the deep end of the free agent pool. What does make sense is to accumulate depth via useful players like Solarte, Nunez, etc. That sort of player gives you insurance and a possible upgrade over some of the current in-house default options. And they leave you with the flexibility to extent the homegrown guys who pan out.

"I am your retribution."
Braves have less than $20M to spend, probably closer to $10M. It's probably a given that MAdams and his $4M-$5M is traded so the Braves can afford to add the 1-2 BP arms they are targeting.
There will be an innings eating SP in Dickeys spot even if he retires, so that's where that money will go.
I think a trade with the Rays for Odorizzi makes some sense. Rays might value MAdams as a cheap option at 1B, and they might value a low end MLB ready pitcher like Sims or Fried. The rest of Odorizzi's value could be covered by a non-elite pitching prospect.

Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...
Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?
Well, in another one of clv's brilliant blog posts he regurgitates the ideas tossed around on this board and uses my Odorizzi trade idea to upgrade the roster, but predictably fails to properly value him and thinks the Braves can get him for Matt Adams straight up.
Nice try bud, but you still have a lot to learn.
