The FBI’s New U.S. Terrorist Threat: ‘Black Identity Extremists’

As white supremacists prepared to descend on Charlottesville, Virginia, in August, the FBI warned about a new movement that was violent, growing, and racially motivated. Only it wasn’t white supremacists; it was “black identity extremists.”

“The FBI assesses it is very likely Black Identity Extremist (BIE) perceptions of police brutality against African Americans spurred an increase in premeditated, retaliatory lethal violence against law enforcement and will very likely serve as justification for such violence,” reads the report, marked for official use only and obtained by Foreign Policy.

The August 2014 shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, was the catalyst for widespread anger and violence, the FBI report says, concluding that continued “alleged” police abuses have fueled more violence.

“The FBI assesses it is very likely incidents of alleged police abuse against African Americans since then have continued to feed the resurgence in ideologically motivated, violent criminal activity within the BIE movement,” the report states.

Some 748 people have been shot and killed by police so far in 2017, including at least 168 African-Americans.

Among the six acts of premeditated violence linked to black identity extremists — it excludes violence toward police carried out in the normal course of their duties — the reports cites the July 2016 shooting of 11 police officers in Dallas. The shooter, Micah Johnson, was reportedly angry at police violence.

“Based on Johnson’s journal writings and statements to police, he appeared to have been influenced by BIE ideology,” the FBI report states. The attack took place during a Black Lives Matter protest of police shootings, though the BLM movement is not mentioned by name in the report.

Do you know what happens when black people protest? Cops come and beat the **** out of them. Its really ****ed up that the supposed only acceptable way for them to protest police brutality is to sit peacefully while cops beat the **** out of them. Violence begets violence. Cops have no one to blame but themselves. Wars have victims on both sides. Both black people and cops would be safer without the war on drugs. There is a solution that benefits both sides. That is if safety is really the #1 concern here and not say.... something like funding. It would take a truly horrible person to choose overtime pay over even 1 cops life.... right?

Fact is police use their union due to subvert the will of the people. 61% support fully legalized pot. 97% support medical marijuana. Police unions heavily lobby against both.



Is it fine with you that police use outright lies to fight the will of the people. When California had a legalization vote in 2010 police unions put out propaganda showing an overturned school bus and said of the measure passed it would be legal to drive high and that employees could go to work high without recourse. Blatant lies. Every cop arresting people for pot possession should be killed. I don't care what you right on a piece of paper anyone trying to take basic freedoms from a person who has not committed a crime against anyone and is not a danger to anyone is the bad guy. Nothing more than Nazi soldiers rounding up Jews.

Assuming that police unions are the bad guy that you make them out to be, there is still a big difference in the actions of the union as an organization lobbying and the actions of the individual doing his job.

The absurdity of your statement about killing cops and the comparison to Nazis rounding up Jews speaks for itself. You're a better person than that.

I don't think you understand the amount of damage the war on drugs and predatory policing has done to the country. The countless lives ruined. We have an incarceration problem in this country. We have the highest rate of incarceration in the world. I don't blame police for enforcing the law. I blame cops for fighting tooth and nail to stop any positive change. They went into business for themselves. No country can call itself the best or free if they lead the world in incarceration rate.



I believe we all have a moral duty to do what is right. We don't look back at a runaway slave as wrong for killing his master. Incarcerating people for victimless crimes is slavery. That makes cops slavers. History will not be kind to this war on drugs once the old religious farts die off and we end this crap. We are winning the war slowly but surely. Once the full scope of the damage the war caused is known it will be remembered as the holocaust in slow motion. We will eventually know the scope of how bad it was when we see the benefits from legalization once the war is won.
