    Today In Baseball History: November

    November 1st:

    1951: Roy Campanella wins his first NL MVP.

    1966: Sandy Koufax becomes the first to win three Cy Young Awards, doing so in the last year before the honor is awarded in both leagues.

    1968: The Tigers Denny McLain is unanimously named the AL Cy Young winner.

    1978: The Yankees Ron Guidry wins the AL Cy Young.

    1979: Edward Bennett Williams buys the Orioles for $12.3 million.

    1982: The Rangers name Doug Rader manager.

    1984: The NL owners block the re-election of Bowie Kuhn, ending his 14 years as commissioner.

    2000: The Phillies name Larry Bowa manager.

    2000: Jim Tracy is named Dodgers manager.

    2001: The Astros name Jimy Williams manager.

    2001: For the second straight night, the Yankees hit a game tying home run in the bottom of the ninth off Diamondbacks reliever Byung-hyun Kim. Scott Brosius tied it then Alfonso Soriano wins it in the 12th, giving the Yankees a 3-2 victory and a 3-2 lead in the World Series. The fifth game of this Fall Classic became the first game in ML history to start in November.

    2007: Joe Torre is named Dodgers manager.

    2010: The Giants defeat the Rangers 3-1 In Game 5, winning their first World Series title since 1954, when the team was in New York.

    1964: CBS buys the Yankees for $11.2 million, becoming the first corporate owner of a ML team.

    1972: Steve Carlton wins the NL Cy Young.

    1974: The Braves trade Hank Aaron to the Brewers for Roger Alexander and Dave May.

    1976: The Padres Randy Jones wins the NL Cy Young.

    1999: So he can be closer to his family in Orlando, Ken Griffey Jr asks the Mariners to trade him.

    2000: The Blue Jays name Buck Martínez manager.

    1955: Cy Young dies at age 88.

    1976: Jim Palmer wins the AL Cy Young for the second straight season.

    1976: The A’s release Chuck Tanner from his contract so he can manage the Pirates. For compensation, the A’s receive Manny Sanguillen and $100,000.

    1996: Derek Jeter is named AL Rookie of the Year.

    1997: On the day he is named AL Manager of the Year, the Orioles Davey Johnson resigns due to a strained relationship with owner Peter Angelos.

    2007: The Pirates name John Russell manager.

    2008: Greg Maddux extends his ML record with his 18th Gold Glove.

    2009: The Marlins trade Jeremy Hermida to the Red Sox for two pitching prospects.

    2012: The Red Sox and David Ortiz agree to a two year deal worth $26 million.

    2013: The Mariners name Lloyd McClendon manager.

    2014: Hall of Famer Paul Molitor is introduced as Twins manager.

    1950: The Pirates hire Branch Rickey as their executive Vice President and general manager.

    1969: The AL Cy Young has co-winners for the first time as the Tigers Denny McLain and the Orioles Mike Cuellar share the honor.

    1984: The Tigers Willie Hernandez joins Rollie Fingers as the only relievers to win the Cy Young and MVP in the same year.

    1987: The Reds trade Kurt Stillwell and Ted Power to the Royals for Danny Jackson and Angel Salazar.

    1997: The Giants Dusty Baker is named NL Manager of the Year.

    2000: The Marlins Kazuhiro Sasaki is named AL Rookie of the Year.

    2002: Randy Johnson wins his fifth Cy Young, his fourth with the Diamondbacks.

    2007: Greg Maddux wins his 17th Gold Glove, breaking a tie he had with Jim Kaat and Brooks Robinson for the most All time.

    1990: Darryl Strawberry signs a five year deal with the Dodgers.

    2000: The White Sox Jerry Manuel wins the AL Manager of the Year.

    2004: The Pirates Jason Bay and the A’s Bobby Crosby win the Rookie of the Year for their leagues.

    2005: The Angels Bartolo Colon wins the AL Cy Young.

    2007: Dropping The “Devil”, Tampa Bay announces their changing their team name to the Rays as well as unveiling a new logo and uniform design.

    2010: ESPN announces Jon Miller and Joe Morgan will no longer broadcast Sunday night games for the network, ending their 21 year run together.

    2007: The Yankees CC Sabathia wins the AL Cy Young.

    2008: The Indians Cliff Lee wins the AL Cy Young.

    2012: The A’s Bob Melvin and the Nationals Davey Johnson win their league’s Manager of the Year.

    2013: The Tigers Max Scherzer wins the AL Cy Young.

    2010: The Giants Buster Posey and the Rangers Neftail Feliz wins the Rookie of the Year doe their league.

    2010: The Pirates name Clint Hurdle manager.

    2011: The Tigers Justin Verlander wins the AL Cy Young.

    2012: Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera wins the AL MVP with the Giants Buster Posey winning in the NL.
