It was so long ago that it's unlikely that it occurred exactly as she recalls. But on the surface it's an accusation that needs looking into. But it's too early to claim validity to the accusation without some answers to critical questions.

    who's claiming validity ?

woman deserves to have her complaint heard and Kavanaugh deserves to face his accuser

Is anyone else imagining what is going through Anita Hill's mind tonight?

    And Clarence Thomas's?

I expect Kavanaugh to be confirmed, but I wouldn't mind an alternative option who is more critical of government spying on it's citizens. I thin the comments about the President being above the law are equally ridiculous.

I'm genuinely curious if we're willing to make massive decisions based on unsubstantiated accusations from 35 years ago about teenagers.

If Corey Booker wins the 2020 nomination, what is to stop a conservative woman from making up an accusation of rape when they were kids? Without an admission of guilt, how do you litigate such a thing decades later?

This is an awful situation regardless of what happens. If it's true, then it's awful. If it's not true, then it's awful that this is happening. I think it's awful that it appears more to be a political stunt from DF than a genuine interest in serving justice (she's had this info for 8 weeks after all).

Our politics have gotten extremely ****ed up. But make no mistake about it, if one party goes down a road, the other will do it right back the first chance they get.

I doubt he will at the point. Our new society now assumes the accused are guilty no matter what and he will have to live that.

He was my 3rd option of the 4 choices though, so I'd be fine with one of others.

But we'd be kidding ourselves if don't expect the next one to be just as much of a clown show as this one was. It's not about the person, after all

Republicans are inviting the accuser to speak, and democrats are saying no.

What are the Republicans left to do? The only answer is to go ahead and confirm, then.

I think the end game here is that if the Dems can't block or delay the nomination long enough (don't think they can), they want to run around the country screaming how the Republicans confirmed an accused rapist to the courts.

Then at least it’d still be a step up from Trump on that front?

This is a complicated take that I ultimately find to be flawed. The idea that awareness of the prevalence of sexual assault and support for victims of it is a detriment to getting victims to report it right away seems to be stated without any real evidence to support it. It is pretty obvious that we should be working as a society to allow victims to feel safe coming forward right away. But if someone was victimized and had the same fears the person in the thread did, we shouldn’t dismiss their account.

A woman who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were high school students is willing to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee, her lawyer said Monday.

Christine Blasey Ford identified herself in a Washington Post interview published Sunday as the author of a confidential letter sent in late July to two members of Congress. She is willing to tell her story publicly, her lawyer, Debra Katz, said Monday on NBC’s “Today” show.

Anyone here think Kavanaughs "presidents are above the law" viewpoint doesnt go out the window as soon as the President is a democrat?

    Huh?

She sat on a letter for 8 weeks, doesn't question him under oath, then anonymously releases it as a political stunt, and you think she did the right thing?

New Illinois law makes it legal to swap out opioids for marijuana. 2,000 of the 72,000 Opioid deaths were in Illinois and this aims to cut down on that. The governor cited clear and convincing research that shows marijuana is effective medicine. Every day more Authoritarians from the 30's and 40's die off freeing our country from their reefer madness syndrome.

She and who else sat on the letter ?

Perhaps Dr Ford had some say on the release of the letter. Perhaps it was an inner committee squabble that held up the release of the letter. Perhaps Sen Feinstein was giving (R) the opportunity to consult their better angels

Sen Feinstein if I am not mistaken did not anonymously release the letter and the phrase "political stunt" has lost all meaning in the age of Trump
