It also has a kick-ass Brewery called Monkey Town Brewery that opened recently and produces some very tasty micro-brews along with a solid food menu. It's worth stopping by if you are passing by this way.

And if any of the non-Southerners happen to be blessed to pass through the greater Charlotte area, let me know. We've got 6 microbreweries within a 10-15 minute drive.

Do you have to drive through it to get to Tahoe? Please say "no."

Most of the large cities in Canada are on the US border. Doesn't that tell you something and gives you a reason why their border cities are much nicer than ours?

I understand that...but I'm talking about a comparison involving small towns

But even then. Those are the prime real estate spots in the Canadian real estate market. Its nothing to the American market.

You can add Rhode Island (ex-Providence) to that list. The SO finished up school in PVD this summer, so I was shuttling between Boston and RI every weekend for about a year. I was kind of shocked that a little enclave wedged between Connecticut and Massachusetts could be so damn hick, but it was. Saw more Trump paraphernalia around Warwick/Kingstown/Narragansett than I did anywhere in the South. That being said, and maybe it's because I grew up in a hick state and can wear the mask pretty well when the company demands, I did grow a unique fondness for RI.

I'll be there on NYE, although not exactly by choice. I waited a little too long to make proper holiday plans and was looking at $900RT out of SFO (which I really couldn't bring myself to spring for, out of principle - that's like 2.5 flights to Europe) to basically anywhere in the South on the dates I needed. Fortunately, found very cheap flights out of Vegas, with the requirement that the return leg be on the 31st. Found a room on the Strip that night using points (fortunately). So Vegas 2018 it is, baby.
