A placeholder. Someone like Seth Smith or Martin Prado.

Unless he is traded, Markakis should be moved to LF. I don't see Acuna up right away, AA predicted mid-season not long ago giving away his plans for not having him start the year for us. Which is the smart move IMO.

Apparently it was agreed to on Thursday but they had to wait until the no trade clause guys waived that right.

**** throw Peterson out there and say **** it. See if he has anything. I know he struggled last year but he's 23 and it's make or break time for him. If he'll amount to anything (not likely) might as well find out now. And then call up Acuna in June.

It seems like a good market to find an OF. I know this isn’t our year to go for it, but I bet AA can find good value for LF so he doesn’t have to fill every hole next offseason.

I’ve been pretty hesitant to trade any top prospects for anybody but given Yelich’s contract and control he’s a no brainer imo. He wouldn’t be just a win now move but a win for the next 5 years and beyond move. Plus guys like him aren’t available very often. Big props to AA for this move bc our timeline to win just moved up to 2019.

lol this place is funny. It was supposed to be 2017 because of the new ballpark, then it was 2018 because well I don’t know why, and now it’s 2019.

It is just hard to keep up because the fine folks here continue to push the timeline to the right and I don’t know why.

    - Braves get to completely front load their dead money side of this swap in 2018. When the sun came up this morning, they had $18m of dead money in 2019, and now they have zero.
    - Braves get a ~2 WAR veteran SP that they were going to be pursuing anyway at a reasonable rate.
    - The Dodgers end up looking like obvious losers on the salary and player exchange, but they save a ton of overall money because their luxury tax overage percentage goes form 50% to 20% this year.

So in a sense, the Braves are able to get a great deal here because of the Dodger's luxury tax situation. One way to think about it is the Dodgers split the value of the luxury tax savings with the Braves, and the Braves side of the split came in the two perks noted above . . . while the Dodgers half is pure money.
    Pretty cool stuff, thanks.

Good job AA. Basically did the impossible

I see no reason to complain about this trade. None at all. Was surprised the Braves were able to even deal Kemp and to do so to a NL team.

Former employee throws his old boss a bone so the Dodgers can get under the luxury tax threshold. Once again a bad precedent is set. Come at the Braves with your bad contracts because they bend over and relish the chance to say we are looking to next year.

My gripe is simply that eventually you are going to need worry about this season instead of next.

We get rid of Kemp(save on the 2019 season’s payroll). The players we got back are FA over the upcoming season. There was no bone thrown to Dodgers. Sure, it helps them this season, but helps us this season and next season.

If anyone was thrown a bone I’d say it was AA.

The Dodgers basically gave the Braves a #4 SP for free, and a crappy but cheap utility guy just for moving Kemp’s money up a year...which they may have been planning to do anyways.

This was an excellent move by AA, and good for the Dodgers as well. Perfect example of intelligent baseball FOs orchestrating a win-win.
