If AA makes sure the Marlins like the guy before they acquire him, that prospect could take a huge chunk out of Yelich’s acquisition cost.

The Braves could get Yelich/Prado by:

    - Salary dump Markakis
    - Flip Julio for a position prospect
    - send that prospect plus a FV 55 pitcher plus Riley plus filler to Miami.

That’s a lot of moving parts, and not likely to happen, but there are plausible paths to get Yelich to Atlanta.
Contract aside, no one is trading for Teheran to be their ace. But most GM'S know he's a season away from another all star season or even better than he was last year. He fits better with a lot of clubs and no way I trade him for less than what we THINK he can be /is/was. That in turn may be how you lessen the blow off a Yelich trade.

What if the Cubs whiff on Darvish and Arrieta? What could we expect for Teheran?

I'd hope for Baez, but that's probably wishful thinking considering Baez' value near the highest it's been for him and JT's value is a bit low. May be Viz and JT for Baez would work.

    Zero interest in Baez

I do not think he’s that good. Fun to watch but I think he is very over rated. Rather get hapo

Teheran might be a fit for Milwaukee, Minnesota, Pittsburgh. Maybe San Fran?

If Minny strikes out on the FA market Jt could make a great fit for them , and they should have the system to swing it.

This time next offseason we should know just about everything we need to before we make the moves it’s gonna take to make these big trades and spend big money.
The minor league depth is good right now, but the big hit we took with the cancellation of the 2016 J2 class really puts a dent in things down the road. If I see a 4 prospects-for-Yelich deal, I'll be convinced that we're heading back into the Frank Wren Limp-Along Machine that will be a borderline contender with zero margin for error.

I don't think so. Let's just say we can get Yelich for Allard, Riley, Pache, and Fried. Not saying I do that, not saying that would get it done. Just in your 4 for yelich framework.

You would have an OF of Yelich, Inciarte and Acuna. That seems like a legit OF for me. Cost controlled for a while.
You could sign a legit stop gap 3B like Frazier. Maybe you have to move contracts, maybe Liberty gives a Santana like waiver to exercise the Coppy demons.
The rest of the infield is Dansby, Albies and Freeman.
Maybe the Catchers turn back into pumpkins.

Pitchers are not great but you have Tehran, Folty, McCarthy, Gohara and Newk. Would still have Wright and Soroka close. Still have Anderson, Wilson and Wentz and others in another wave.
RPs are who knows.....but you still have some high upside arms.

Still have a lottery ticket in Jackson.

You are light on position guys but you do have Encarnacion, Cruz and Waters to dream on.

You do have two high picks in the next draft.

You'd have LF, CF, RF, 1B, 2B, and SS locked up for the next couple of years.

I do not think it's a wasteland. After the draft we might still be in the top 10 systems depending on how things go.

I don't think the Cubbies will let Happ go. I

I didn't use to like Baez, but the bat has come around and is playable at basically every position. He also plays above average defense at multiple positions. And his best days are likely ahead of him. I'd be happy with Baez if we traded JT, though yes, Happ would be preferrable given his control and and presumably higher floor.

I would do that deal. I think that's the kind of deal we'll do next off-season. Pitching for someone to play left.

I’m a huge fan of Yelich but the longer this goes on the more I think we should wait. No way I get in a bidding war at the risk of depleting a farm that is one draft away from replenishing their international losses. Add another top 2 rounds type talent and NEXT year is the year to close the gap. Just an opinion.

I don't get people's interest in Baez. Aside from a possible championship mentality, I don't care for him.

yeah, I think he's overrated. versatility is nice. but i'm not a buyer on his bat overall.

I'm also in agreement that the more this drags on and the more Jeter gets cricified in the media for being inept that there's not going to be much "value" to a trade. A win now team can justify an overpay. We shouldn't go down that road.

The ony way it really makes sense for us is if we're attaching Prado or Chen to the deal. I know I'm in the minority here, but I think Chen could be useful if we look at him like a 6th man off the bench who gives you 100 innings a year.

unrealistic to think that gets you Yelich...i think at a minimum you would need to replace Allard and Anderson with Soroka and Wright...and even that probably won't do it

So many proposals that include one or two of our two or three real position prospects. Didn't we load up on pitching prospects to use them as trade currency?
