maybe thoughts and prayers will work to stop the next one

cause the status quo seems to be doing such a great job

    i know

    i know

now is not the time to talk about it

but if we don't talk about it now, we won't ever talk about it cause it will just run into the next mass shooting that the thoughts and prayers didn't solve either

This is the 19th school shooting this year
we still have 10 1/2 months to go in 2018

not just mass shooting like at dance halls, bars or malls

    schools!

    Will anything change ?
Not while the NRA is in charge

    https://www.opensecrets.org/news/201...t-all-of-them/

The NRA’s largest 2016 outlay was the $30.3 million it spent in support of Trump.

The NRA is a convenient boogeyman for the ill-informed.

In December, American Outdoor Brands, the owner of Smith & Wesson, reported that its profits had fallen 90% year over year, from $32m to just $3.2m. Sales fell 36%. Last October, Sturm Ruger, the US’s largest firearm manufacturer, announced its quarterly revenues had fallen 35%. Both companies will report their latest results shortly but neither is expected to announce a dramatic increase in sales.

They call it the Trump slump,” said Robert Spitzer, a professor at the State University of New York at Cortland and the author of five books on guns.

    [...]

The surge of gun purchases under Obama was largely driven by sales to existing gun owners. Sales spiked on Obama’s re-election and after his calls for new laws in the wake of tragedies like the Sandy Hook massacre in 2012, which claimed the lives of 20 children and six adults.

Seems like you might try a new tact instead of bitching and wailing about guns.

Yes, we need firearms reform. We've needed reform for decades.

But these school shootings are about so much more than gun availability.

Imagine that. Gun sales go up with an irrational fear that our President will ban guns.

You keep saying all these things and have yet to propose a solution. So please, let us know what you think fixes these problems.

Sounds like yet again another societal failure to identify the shooter. So many red flags and nothing was done.

I'm not sure how the relative financial health of the firearms industry is a relevant data point here.

And it's neither here nor there, but the total amount spent by the NRA in '16 is probably more than twice that $30M figure.

I'm genuinely interested to know what you guys think the non-firearm-related remedies are here.

I've been very clear. The escalation in these shootings is due to the break down of society. I blame social media and I blame parents.

For starters, they should make it illegal to have guns at schools.

That are no specific solutions whereby you say do A then B happens.

This is about a societal change in what we value. Everyone is to blame for this but I do find it comical that the President is mocked when he harps on family during his SOTU.

I think that's about the messenger, not the message.

Seriously, though. This doesn't happen in so-called peer nations. Why does it happen here, and what potential remedies exist?

There is no one solution. There is not a simple solution to this. You can talk gun control, mental health, security in the schools, anything like that, but there is no one thing that will stop this. And even you put in let’s say, tougher gun laws, it’s not going to be a 100% foolproof solution. People will still find a way to get a gun. I wish I knew the answer. I don’t. I don’t think anyone does. The main thing anyone can do is if you see something suspicious, say something without hesitation. However, nothing prepares you for something like this.

Certain element of that I agree but I don't want to make this about Trump.

I do believe that there is a devaluation of the family and what that means. Can't describe it but it almost feels like the collective is pushed over the individual family and I don't like it.
