I honestly dont understand objections to regulating weapons.

and please with NRA misrepresentation of 2nd Amendment

we regulate motorcars, boats, dogs, professional people, toxic emissions , ladders, lawn darts, cold medicine and the constitution didnt burst into flames .

why would licensing weapons that kill people be such a problem?
    ................

Personally I'd like to see manufacturers held civily liable for gun violence and taxed to high heaven. Ala tobacco

    1. We do raise regulate weapons

    2. Are you saying that raising taxes on something will be bad for it's growth?

    1) further regulation. I think you understood what I meant but anyway ...

    2) tobacco!!
Or most / any other time raising taxes is mentioned. Save weapons and ammunition
    Then it doesn't

I'm glad you have finally acknowledged that higher taxes is bad for whatever it is being taxed.

    I agree

    b) you seem to be using the term "dogma" an awful lot. Kinda the way some use "socialism" or in olden days "liberal". I
usually relate the term with religion. I personally don't equate public policy in terms of spirituality. The other word might have used "hysteria"

    c) we agree, let's wonder together what happened . Speaking of "dogma"

    d) well, there is that word again

I thought you meant to discuss policy before throwing around Carlsonesque dog whistles
Dogma is any set of principles laid down as incontrovertible. It's often used in the context of religion but it can apply in any number of circumstances.

Politics in the US is full of dogma. Think of all the positions politicians espouse as true with no evidence because that's the line.

You see it with tax policy, abortion, minimum wage, etc. It's not about evidence based policy. Your side's position is true and any evidence to the contrary is wrong. That's dogma.

I'm not a politician and against the ease of availability of weapons since the mid 60's. My principles are dont steal or lie and cheat
Do you view owning an AR-15 a principle?
I certainly dont see curtailing the availability of war weapons a principle

Please, tell me more about dogma

Not all beliefs are dogma. Why and how you believe something makes it dogma. If you developed your belief yourself and don't believe it as incontrovertible, it's not dogma

But if you can't see how many people just accept what they're told politically as axiomatically true, I can't help you.

we regulated/banned lawn darts for less
we were reduced for years to humiliating body scans and forced to move through airports in our stockings for a failed bombing attempt

elementary school age children have to have a day a week where they are to learn how to hide from a shooter is dogma
We are teaching our kids to hide

Bowling For Columbine shown a huge light on the issue 17 years ago.
If I was a gambling man my money would say your focus was on how that mean Moore was disrespectful to that nice Mr Heston
Then like now completely missing the point

one would think research would have blossomed. But, like climate science and tobacco 40 years ago -politically ...

I am not for taking peoples guns. Just making them very very very inconvenient to obtain and once obtained they be registered and monitored as if it were a car boat or motorcycle.
Or a dog from the pound

I have never heard a pol advocate the above. dogma phff
We teach our kids to cower in a closet while a madman threatens their lives and we cant defend 6-7-8 year old. 17 month olds.

Walmart said Tuesday it would discontinue the sale of handgun ammunition.

The Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer also said it would ask shoppers not to openly carry firearms in its stores, even in states that allow doing so.

“We encourage our nation’s leaders to move forward and strengthen background checks and to remove weapons from those who have been determined to pose an imminent danger,” McMillon said. “We do not sell military-style rifles, and we believe the reauthorization of the Assault Weapons ban should be debated to determine its effectiveness. We must also do more, as a country, to understand the root causes that lead to this type of violent behavior.”

Hours after Walmart’s announcement, retail and grocery giant Kroger said Tuesday that it’s asking the public not to openly carry firearms in its stores.

In a statement on Tuesday, the NRA called Walmart’s new gun policies “shameful” and accused the retailer of succumbing “to the pressure of the anti-gun elites.”

there is one y'all missed "'anti-gun elites"
    good one

that is rich coming from NRA whose President wears $3500 Italian suits
    elites my ass

I'm generally vary wary of government regulation of people. This probably contributes to why I'm wary of rushing into gun control laws without research, evidence, and long consideration. However, that also contributes to my belief the laws out there essentially making it impossible for a private business owner to ban guns in its establishment are terrible.

You may have a right to be free of unreasonable government intervention in your owning of a firearm. That doesn't mean you should have the right to carry that firearm onto private property against the wishes of the property owner. If Walmart or Kroger wants to ban customers from carrying firearms in their stores, they should be able to. If carrying your gun in a store is important to you, don't give those stores your business.

Just got an email from my kid’s school saying they had their ‘lockdown’ drill today.

You know schools in other countries don’t do this, right?

You know other countries don’t scar entire generations of kids

to appease the gun lobby, right?

    This. Is. Not. Normal.
