There is a lot to chew on with respect to crime in both cities and rural areas. There have been some enormous long-term swings. And some worrisome short-term developments. There are serious problems that deserve serious discussion.
I've been watching the New York mayoral race, voting for which just got started. The candidates responding to concerns about crime seem to be doing better. And the ones offering rhetoric about reducing police spending not so well. I'm guessing that there will be an appetite for pragmatic problem-solvers in the next few years. And not just in New York and other big cities.
