I'm not souring on Wright or anything... but I do question how highly ranked he is when he's really done nothing. His stats last year in limited work were nothing special... not bad, but not dominating either... levels he should probably already be dominating. I definitely thinks he has all the talent and stuff.... but I really want to see it translate somewhere in the pros to get too excited. I haven't seen that yet personally. But way too early to be down on him... just think its a case where his reputation has him ranked higher than he should be at this stage.

I'm hoping Gohara, Soroka, and Wright can be 3 studs.... and then maybe two of Newcomb/Fried/Allard/Anderson/Wentz/Wisler/Skinny Blair actually work out. Wisler has honestly impressed me a bit this spring in a very short time. He did go through the one stretch his first full MLB year where he dominated for a month or two before falling apart. He has a nice mix of stuff, just no single eye popping thing. If he can learn to pitch and keep the grounders going... he may not be done.

I'm willing to admit, I thought he was a reach at where they took him. I didn't have anything against him but thought he could have been had next Braves pick down. The same goes for my thoughts at the time on Riley.

I could say now that I was wrong. And I might be. BUT, we'll never know if either or both could have been picked next Braves pick down because it didn't happen that way.

I think about it like the the Raiders taking PK Sebastian Janikowski with the 17th pick in the first round of the NFL draft. He had an 18 year career with them so the pick was an obvious success. But, could they have picked him as easily in the 3rd round? Probably.

May have been primarily the Chris Reitsma connection, to be fair.

Janikowski is a bad comparison. That was a bad pick because he was a kicker. Even taking a reliever in the 1st round isn't terrible if you're pretty sure he's going to have a long career. No one was going to take a kicker in the 1st.
Soroka may well have not been there, we'll never know. But it so far has been a great pick.

I like to compare him more to Tom Brady... best draft pick of all time and the GOAT

During the draft thread, nearly everyone said it was a stupid pick.

Some of it was overflow from taking pitcher after pitcher, but it wasn’t a highly regarded pick at that time. Since, he has had a lot of followers. He still is likely our most underrated prospect by our fans.

I'm just glad that the same people running the draft 4 years ago are still here.

Commenting in a draft 2 years out and less seems like a futile exercise.

How about in their second full seasons?

2016 draft has produced Anderson/Wentz/Wilson/Cumberland/Davidson/Clouse this far. Even a guy like Neslony is flying under the radar.

I'd say it's looking good but needs more time to evaluate.

i think seeing how the players, you know, play out is probably good. we've barely gotten a look at the 2017 kids. not sure what's not to like about 2016 so far, either.

Hey, we haven't seen you list out some names to make them seem more impressive in a while!

I think it's perfectly reasonable for someone to be underwhelmed with a draft whenever they feel it is appropriate. I was against the Anderson/Wentz/Muller draft the moment it happened.

I had no problems with the Allard/Soroka draft at the time though. I saw Allard as a Top 10 talent that fell to the Braves due to injury concerns, and the Braves were taking a chance on getting a Top 10 talent with pick #14. They obviously weren't projecting him to be throwing 89 mph at 20 years old though.

I don't even pretend to know enough about draft prospects to have a real opinion on guys after the Top 10 or so.

    .
Sure. But it can't be a called a success or a failure until the players play more than a year. I think the 2016 draft is looking pretty good based on results vs. feelings.
