BREAKING: All schools in West Virginia will be closed again Friday because of an historic,

statewide teacher strike. It will be the seventh day of the strike.

    ............................

Wanted to have this up earlier this week but thought it would get settled or the teachers would cave, not so much

    Things are changing.
To my knowledge this is the first substantive strike in many a year

will others be inspired / feel emboldened ?

Where did you learn to spell or the multiplication tables ?

I insist that lack of civic education at middle school level lead to Trump and the rise ocf the know nothing wing of conservatism.
I don't mean know nothing as in they disagree with me on policy.
I mean know nothing as in the everyday mechanics of a functioning government.

It didnt take me 12+ years of school to do it. Outside of reading/writing and basic math what useful stuff do they really teach you. Elementary was very useful. Beyond that it was a waste of time. We need a major revamping of literally everything to do with education in this country.

No argument here, but it begins with a commitment. Both physically and financial

I take issue with everything above elementary school being a waste of time.
    Perhaps in your case.
    Making it an anecdotal reference

Americans spend the first 18 years of their lives falling behind the rest of the world. The ones who go to college spend the next four catching up. The ones who go to graduate school tend to surpass their peers in other countries who go to graduate school.

So yes, there are a lot of inefficiencies in our educational system.

It's amazing that we do as well as we do as a country given the inefficiencies in our educational and medical care systems. But I'm afraid those inefficiencies have been catching up to us.

Education, health care, transportation/energy policy...we're suffering from a long-term failure to adequately prioritize. And it is indeed catching up with us.

I think it silly to blame teachers for the state of our educational systems.

    Legislators and administrators .

Kinda like blaming a Marine private for our Afghanistan policies

So we’re blaming people now for systematic failures and not objects?

Until parents get on board that their children are wrong often and take the side of educators we will forever be behind. Teachers have the toughest job in the world and that's because of parents

This doesn't make any sense. Trump doesn't get any young voters. So who were his voters voting for before?

Other W.V. Unions May Join Teachers’ Strike – W.V. Senate Refuses to Pass Pay Raise – Students Have Teachers’ Back

Teachers in West Virginia, who are the 48th lowest paid in the nation, quit school for a two-day illegal wildcat strike on Thursday, the first time they have taken such action since 1990.

They are demanding that state legislature vote to increase their wages, health care, and stop the proposed elimination of traditional teachers seniority.

With starting salaries set at $31,000 a year, union leaders say that after deducting for health care costs, many teachers in the state make less than $15 an hour.

    ..................

Someone making $30K a year gets how much of a raise out of the tax bill.
Have been told repeately told I am math challenged.
Help a fellow Braves fan out here.
    Willya ?

    Well let's see.

They probably get 3%, just like I got 3%, and you got 3%.

    So 3% of 31k is $930

    There's the math for you.

Now tell me why they deserve more than others

The 3% number comes from where ?

Anecdotally, I got $4.00 per week, or $200+ per year.
Paul Ryan's alluded to secretary got $75 per year.

Ryan's secretary was reportedly in the $25-30 range.
    I think

I have googled high and low and am apparently asking the wrong question

Still doesn't square with Ryan's secretary or my pay check.
    I am asking

If you are unable to find the new tax rate brackets on the internet then you are even dumber than I imagined
