Baseball reference had an awesome tweet today that really illustrates just how good Ozzie has been: since the first ever All-Stsr game... he's only the 3rd 21 year old or younger in the MLB to ever accumulate 200+ total bases before the break. The other two? Mike Trout and Al Kaline.

mike minor was a low ceiling pick. he was the definition of a low ceiling pick. 10 fWAR is not very good. 7.9 bWAR. he basically had 1 good season.
also, what have i been wrong about? enlighten me.

this remains to be seen. but again, we're comparing 7 drafts to 3. that's all wren was able to muster in 7 drafts. that's wild.

Great player. Lucky to have him
i do think his lack of steals come more from hitting in front of freddie than anything else.

sure...adjust for number of drafts, number of early picks, etc...I'm actually interested in a fair evaluation

I don't think there is a fair way to compare Wren to his successors. There was never any way Wren was going to be allowed to stop the 'win now' path and rebuild the team, that would have been an admission that JS left the organization in poor standing. He had to keep the train rolling as far as possible for as long as possible. He also had the presence of Bobby Cox to contend with, and I think we all know that Bobby didn't want the MLB team to take a step back. Once Cox was gone, and then Wren, the lack of depth in the organization could be pinned on Wren and the long needed change in philosophy could begin.

It's also hard to judge Hart and Coppy fairly because of the strange duality of their roles. We really don't know at what point Coppy really got control, and how often he was forced into decisions after that by Hart, JS, or both.

The whole player personnel management situation has been a convoluted mess ever since JS absolved himself of responsibility while still keeping some toes in the water. I think it's easy to look all the way back to the Mark Teixiera (or however you spell that) trade and see things started getting sideways there.

Ozzie doesn't have to be a good person for me to enjoy his baseball ability. I do like Bonds after all.

I mean the Olivera, Kimbrel, Simmons, and Kemp deals basically undid any good Coppy did. Those were so negative value it really set us back.

Wren was told to.win and he did. He left Coppy with a ton of MLB talent to trade and Coppy did pretty poorly with them in aggregate

wren "won" with a team he largely inherited and did a very poor job of building around it with the terrible contracts he repeatedly gave out. imagine what we could've done with that core he was given with all that money he gave away to **** players.

    and also fredi.

Wren left a losing ball club with no obvious path to contention. The only way to really excuse that is to say he had no agency in his own tenure, which you folks do seem to do to a great degree. If that's the case he was useless anyway.

Braves are now in first place after only three years of a rebuild with a clear payroll next season and what is still regarded as a stacked minor league roster.

I don't see much reason to celebrate Coppy/Hart, but the thing speaks for itself.

It does. We are winning with players largely inherited from the Wren era.

That's why i refer to 2018 as the start of the Golden Wren Era...it is when the Children of Wren (Albies, Acuna, Camargo) took the team to the promised land...led by Freddie Freeman, who was extented on team friendly terms by Wren

Absolutely wouldn't be where we are without them. Also wouldn't be where we are without Folty, Newk, Dansbae, Ender, and Neck (among others).

I think both sides should just be happy neither Hartcoppy nor Wren are at the helm anymore. Hartcoppy did an overall good job rebuilding the talent level in only 3 years but also made a couple of the worst trades in recent memory and got us punished harshly by the MLB. Wren did an overall decent job keeping us competitive on a limited budget and brought Simba into our lives which is good enough for me. But he also completely drained our minor league system of talent, didn't draft well, and made some of the worst FA deals and extensions (Uggla/CJ) in franchise history.

it was market value at the time of the deal.
the need to give that guy credit for things he either had very little to do with (international guys) or standard moves is astounding. and, like i said, says a lot.
if this apparent wren prowess carried over to FA signings or draft picks (the most control a GM has over the future of a team), we would not have had the need to rebuild.
