yes...i'm happy to see some of those trades work out...for Folty...for Gohara...i'm equally impressed by "small moves" like stashing Biddle on the 40-man while he recovered from TJ...Hartcoppy deserves some credit

Yep, Coppy managed to not blunder all of Wrens amazingly valuable assets in deals.

I think we need an in depth discussion on whether Hart or Coppy gets credit for the Folty deal

A rumor that we have absolutely no way of verifying or not. Who reported it anyway? I do not remember.

With respect to Quintana, the Cubs certainly paid more than Albies.

I think you would be better off questioning the player being acquired than the willingness to give up Ozzie, whether they were or were not. Deal didn't happen after all.

The very depth of the Braves minor league system may well hinder Atlanta's ability to make trades? because teams are demanding better packages simply because Atlanta has/had more to give?

Change is incremental. This is a significantly different position than was the norm around here a year ago. A year ago Coppy did squander all Wren's valuable assets except for the one where he got lucky that doesn't count.

I'm genuinely sorry to anyone that I really pissed off back in June. I didn't mean it.

Some of it was my shenanigans with trying to reverse jinx then actually truly being serious in reality. I've actually been good on that in a lot of cases outside of Swanson, so I might move on to Flowers and Acuna very soon. And some of it was worried projecting into the future and what if instead of staying in the now and thinking reasonably that someone that doesn't K a lot has a better chance of getting it going then to bat .150 over nearly a whole month.

Here's another admittance, I've tried using charts and even pitch movement to try to make good points on a couple players but I just stare at it after making some calculations and I'm thinking "I can't do this" and just leaving it as a post, unposted.
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.

plus. "wren's valuable assets" are mostly international guys. we know the drafting was dreadful.
16 year old international signings are just lottery tickets. wren wasn't "good" at identifying these guys. it's not like he personally signed them. it was the int'l dept. he was mostly poor at talent acquisition and did a poor job of building around the young, talented team he inherited.

In the cases of Wood, Gattis, Kimbrel and Simmons controlled for many years under very favorable financial terms. Extremely valuable assets.

    no.
heyward wasn't wren's. he was here when he got here.
gattis was an asset that got turned into a better asset.
we traded good assets for upton, though we admittedly came out ahead.
the other 3 guys represent pretty much the only successful wren draft picks. yikes. he burned more 1st rounders than he found other players in the draft.

What? Heyward was drafted well after Wren was in the Braves organization.

I guess he was responsible for everything that happened after 1999. Cool.

I mean if he wasn't responsible for the Albies and Acuna signings as a GM then I don't see why he can't be responsible for the draft prior to him taking over the GM role.

to be fair, wren was alive during the 14 straight east titles. gotta give him some credit.

To be honest, I was a little worried with all the HRs because I thought Albies might be over-swinging and I thought that would take him away from what made him successful in the minors. Maybe he's the next Jimmy Wynn; smallish guy with power potential.

    So they weren't great assets?

Take Heyward off the list. The only trade Coppy didn't **** up was Gattis. Upton has a chance to turn out ok, I guess.

Wrent drafted Kimbrel, Simmons, Gattis, and Wood. He signed Acuna, Albies, Camargoat

the braves int'l department signed those guys. i've said this. but if the best thing anyone can point to in regard to what wren "did well" is a few low dollar 16-year old international signings that he almost certainly had nothing direct to do with, then the straws being grasped at speak for themselves.

i ain't having this debate again. wren wasn't a good GM by any measure other than "wins" with mostly players that weren't acquired during his tenure. it is what it is.

the hard on for wren is hilarious tho
