    Could the Braves win 90 games this season?

    I just looked at fangraphs and after 9 games (SSS I know) the Braves have a batting WAR of 2.8 and a pitching WAR of -0.2. That makes our total WAR after 9 games 2.6 WAR. Extrapolating that over 162 games would give the Braves a total of 46.8 WAR. Adding in the 48 wins replacement level wins to the 46.8 wins above replacement would give the Braves a total of 94.8 wins.

    So let me start off by again saying the sample size is small. Some of the players who have been good for us so far will most likely regress but some will most likely be better as well. Also there are a couple levers that can be pulled such as bringing up Acuna and potentially booting Teheran from the rotation (currently -0.5 pitching WAR).

    Let’s discuss :)

    Literally everything would have to go right for that to happen.

    It has happened before though.

    1990 = 65 wins
    1991 = 94 wins

    Not calling it, but I bet no one here would’ve called 1991 either

    I’d be really pleasantly surprised. If we play above our heads for another 6 weeks we might be in position to actually add MLB talent, which would be a nice change.

    I doubt it but if some things are sustained (and I'm not meaning Flaherty), we could see a 2017 Brewers like overachievement. Fight to the end for a playoff spot but just miss out in a major step forward that has a lot of positives.

    Overall feeling is pretty positive on the Braves so far. There was an interesting take from a Philly sports fan on TC, he said that this Braves team so far reminds him of the Eagles pre Super Bowl season. Players played loose with nothing to lose, and an overall positive season even though there was just 7 wins that foreshadowed a step forward. And he said he's a realist, and has had smack talked to him about it.
    Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.

    Don’t care. Going to have fun for how ever this is going to last. Love watching/listening to this team. Even with the ****ty loss last night. Still a great entertaining game that we easily could have won. That is all that matters in my world.

    This is what CyYoung31 called...everything going right. The young kids developed into real players and you had a vet turn in a MVP season.

    A lot would have to happen but it's not impossible. This is especially true of the starting rotation. We have some talented arms, but non one I feel we can count on at the top of the rotation. However if Folty, Newc, and Gohara turned the corner we could suddenly have a great staff. That would be asking a lot.

    I think 80 is our baseline...90 is about 2 standard deviations away

    Acuna would have to be putting up MVP numbers, in addition to Freddito and Albies. We'd also finally have to see some of that stockpiled pitching actually contribute to the team.

    McCarthy stays healthy, Newk and Folty prove they aren't fools gold, and JT gets back to being at least league average, then we stand a good chance at winning mid 80's or higher. I have never doubted that the offense will be good enough (though not this good obviously). But our starters are going to make or break our year.

    Not impossible but REALLY unlikely. I'd be more comfortable predicting 80-85, yet in that range, a whole lot needs to go right.

    Of course, so far, it has.

    Almost everything would have to go right to win 90 and we have already lost 2 games we should have won in just the first 9.

    I said at the start of the year that I think the Braves win 86 games this year and nothing int he first week has made me change that belief.

    i think the bats are going to hit. the offense will be at least above average.
    really going to come down to how good the pitching is, and how it develops.

    Looking at things objectively. We should have lost that 1st game as well.

    I'm losing it in my old age? Why is that? Taking Nola out early?
