We dodged a bullet with Maitan

    He is terrible.

Baseball America is even mocking him (seriously):

Did not even make the A ball team for the Angels.

Dodged a bullet? Didn't we still lose the money we spent on him?

Yeah, and the fact that the whole scandal centered on a player like that is the opposite of dodging a bullet.

    Screw John Coppellela.

He looks like someone who made all the money he wanted and now has no motivation.

For real. We also decided to cheat to get his ass. I would literally say we took a bullet right in the freaking skull with Matain. There was no dodging.

LOL, I don't think little SJ knows what that phrase means.

    Guys

We dodged a bullet because we won't be heartbroken over a long period of time when he inevitably disappears from baseball because he sucks.

Saves ourselves time. And time is the most precious commodity.

I think it's almost better for him to actually be good and have a productive career. It makes the previous FO look that much worse when they cheated over such a bust.

Maybe it was worth suspension to get rid of Coppy and get AA. Coppy was horrible at fielding a MLB roster.

You can just look at Coppy or hear his voice and tell he's a huge nerd with no idea.

First time I heard him was in an in game interview and I thought they were interviewing a female softball player. True story.

I absolutely love reading this Hart/Coppy bashing now that they are gone.

It would be hilarious to dig up all the posts where folks around here constantly defended them as a powerhouse FO brain trust who knew more than we did because "they get paid to do this" haha.

If work is slow this afternoon I think I'll do some work on the site's search function.

I never liked Hart. I like “some” things about. Coppy. He was not great at constructing a MLB roster, and he did poorly (minus Shelby trade) in big trades.

He was relentless it stockpiling talent (obviously too much so), and he could “buy low” with the best of them. Did well at adding picks also.

It was the perfect time in the rebuild to move on from him, so it was a blessing in disguise.

Maitan may be fine in the end, a lot of teams aren't like the Braves in that they aggressively push 18 year old kids to full season ball no matter what...the book hasn't closed quite yet.
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.
