The #5 spot is producing this year...
I didn’t get to see Wisler tonight. Is there any hope that he could actually be solid this year, or was it a fluky ons game?

I can't wait till tonight's game. I hope we don't bring Razor Ramon/Scott Hall toothpicks to the plate and but if we flip them like Joey Bats which is a good thing.
I wish the free MLB game was tonight but I could not complain about the first 6 innings of last night. I had to go to Pepto Bismo in the 8th and the for first time in my life I cussed at a reliever that I wish they banish to the minors or send him out of the organization. Sims was awful, I never seen something that bad out of a pitcher in that short amount of time. Save the rusty BS. He is in the major leagues, he should be ready when called upon.
This- all day long. I am wearing my braves hat to work today...
If Newk can keep this game tied or within a few then I like our chances. They burned their only lefty last night and hopefully we can knock Thor out in 6
Coppy
It was. He definitely was putting pitches where he wanted them.
Though I will say that Wisler has generally had pretty good control in his career. Last year his BB rate was uncharacteristically high (3.62 per 9) but I think that might have had more to do with him nibbling at the corners with non-competitive pitches.
It really seemed like an entirely different pitcher last night. One that went right after batters and knew how to most effectively use his stuff.
Wisler always had a good slider. The problem was he had a bad sinker that he threw too much.
What's interesting is if you look at how I graded Wisler's overall arsenal: 50 FA, 40/45 SI, 50 CU, 55/60 SL, 45/50 CH
It is very close to Teheran's current arsenal, and Teheran has experienced some recent success by throwing the FA (a terrible pitch) about half as often as he used to while increasing his SL (a good pitch) usage.
When I said this about Wisler, "That is a lot of usable pitches...Seems to me he's a guy another team might be able to "fix"", I assumed that team would not be the Braves. However, Wisler threw 102 pitches last night, and they were:
53 FA (52%) - average pitch
6 SI (6%) - below average pitch
4 CU (4%)
39 SL (38%) - plus pitch
0 CH
For his career, he has thrown the SI roughly 21% of the time, and the SL 32% of the time. He essentially abandoned his poor SI last night, and threw his plus SL more.
It seems to me someone may have told him that his SI sucks, and his SL is good, so he adjusted his pitch selection accordingly. Perhaps the Braves new analytics team have "fixed" Wisler? Maybe he can stick as a back end SP now that intelligent people are helping him refine his pitch selection?
However, he was a 2-pitch guy last night. He won't succeed long term in the rotation without the CH, which showed average-ish last year.

both Teheran and Wisler said they lost their slider last year and worked hard during the off-season and spring training to get it back
