    Harper or Machado?

The season is already flying by and though I’m loving what we’re producing so far, next season will be here before we know it.

So, if the front office decides to truly go all-in and grab a top bat, would you prefer Harper or Machado?

Both are young and would be a seamless fit in our lineup for years to come.

Currently, Machado is hitting .356 with an OPS of 1.147. Harper on the other hand is sitting at .275 with an OPS of 1.098.

Still, both have very little to proof in terms of production and even defense for the most part.

So, who would you prefer we go after? Personally, I’m on the Harper train.

Assuming unlimited funds it has to be Harper.

I think it’s fruitless to pick one in this hypothetical as there is no shot that the Braves are in a position to sign either of them.

Look. It's another day with likely another rain out. Got to do something to pass the time.

Going with Harper as he is in a position of more need.

Machado was really wanted to go back to SS this offseason so I am assuming he will probably want to stay there, we have Dansby.

Harper at 400 million or Machado at 300 million? I'm going Machado all day.

Why? He's the better offensive player, but Machado has basically been as valuable over his career so far. Both are positions of need. Machado's defense will begin to decline in a few years, but he's also been less injury-prone so far. Harper seems like someone who may always have trouble staying healthy and could begin to break down around 30.

And Machado will likely be cheaper.

That said, we're not getting either one.

I feel Harper will be the better player over the course of their massive deals they get.

    I'd go Harper.
But yeah, it's a 0% chance we get either of them so..

Sure, I just wondered why you felt it 'had to be' Harper. It doesn't seem like a no-brainer at all to me.

Braves love Riley and view him as the future 3B. We won’t go big at signing a third basemen.

What position does Machado play for the Braves?

It's a little closer than maybe I first thought.

    Clearly 3B

I get that Riley is showing promise, but he is in no way, shape, or form anything close to an answer right now. If we actually were in a position to decide between the two, I don't know how you let Austin Riley factor that heavily into the decision.

With Riley and Camargo in the organization, the choice is clearly Harper.

While it won't be Harper, following the Braves endeavor of adding an impact bat to LF this upcoming off season will be pretty exciting and will be the final stamp on the end of the rebuild. They have the resources to make a significant addition, and anything less than an OF projected for a combined 8+ wins should be seen as a failure by the FO.

The only realistic free agent OF that I can find who makes sense is AJ Pollock. We know how AA values defense, and I'm hoping he'd translate to a good defensive LF. His injury history is there, but I think he makes a lot of sense from the free agent market. If not, I bet it's likely to be a trade addition.

I'd be really happy Pollock. I'm a pretty big fan. I'd bet we trade farm depth for pitching and use money on a bat.

I'd be more willing to bet that the Yankees sign Harper and trade Stanton to the Braves.

If Stanton really struggles this year and the fans continue to turn on him, then I wouldn’t rule this out actually.

They would have to eat a lot a lot of money.

    You're probably right.

If the Giants decide to rebuild, Belt might be available for LF. The M's might decide to blow things up and make Haniger available. Maybe Soler is finally coming around and KC decides to flip him.

There aren't many obvious options at the moment, but hopefully some reveal themselves because the Braves have a huge need and resources to spend.
