So when I saw 30.4 ft/sec I assumed that would put him near the top of the league in top speed. I'm open to numbers changing my mind, which they have.
I was unsure about it as well. I have heard comments that lead me to believe speed can be measured as a one time (or nearly one time) deal.

The single 30.4 for Acuna isn't the same as the 30.4 sprint speed posted for Buxton though. It wasn't an apples to apples comparison. We have the apples (mostly) for Acuna now.

There is probably a graphic out there somewhere showing Buxton at 31+ for a trip from 1st to 3rd.

It's settled...Acuna and Albies both have a 20% chance of making the HOF.

Webster and his friend left Atlanta and arrived in Cincinnati early Thursday morning. They got their autographs. And then, sitting in the stadium, it hit them.
"Let's look at a spray chart from the minors and see where he might hit his first major league homer," Webster said. "I just happened to put myself in the right spot."

Back in Joe Simpson’s day fans didn’t need advanced stats to catch HR balls. Fans had grit and determination. These advance stats are ridiculous and ruining fans.

Acuna already +1 on DRS and Outs Above Average due to the 4 star play he caught the other night. And with surprisingly plus defense from Nick the defense in the OF is looking really good right now.

it would make sense to slightly adjust Inciarte's positioning toward right with Acuna in left

Acuna sitting at 27.9 feet per second in sprint speed after 8 events so far. That's good for the 90-100 range. So while disappointing from the first post that got brought up about it's pretty much in line with what the scouts had him at with plus speed. Doesn't look like he's grade 70 like Albies.

How many events is a sufficient sample size for this stat?

Statcast has their initial set at 10 minimum. I think we are getting to a spot where 'this is it'. Acuna can max out at 30 f/s but clearly it's not going to be the norm. So far he's shown 60 grade overall speed which is what most scouts had him pegged at.

Is every run tracked? If so I've I've that metric is faulty because how often are guys running with max effort?

It's defined at the top of the page where the information is located

Sprint Speed is Statcast’s foot speed metric, defined as “feet per second in a player’s fastest one-second window” on individual plays. For a player’s seasonal average, the following two types of plays currently qualify for inclusion in Sprint Speed. The best of these runs, approximately two-thirds, are averaged for a player’s seasonal average.
    * Runs of two bases or more on non-homers, excluding being a runner on second base when an extra base hit happens
    * Home to first on “topped” or “weakly hit” balls.

It is measured and calculated exactly the same for every player. Since grades are used to rate against other players, that’s all that matters.

Notice folks only question it now that they want Acuna to have a higher speed grade than it actually is?

Sounds more like trying to increase understanding of what the number means than questioning it so Acuna can have a higher grade.

We’ve talked about sprint speed for over a year. Nobody ever questioned it until they didn’t like Acuna’s grade.

So no, I doubt intellectual curiosity suddenly struck some posters who have never shown that mental trait in the past. They want to keep thinking Acuna has elite speed because he “looks fast”.

It's the same way defensive stats get questioned by some when propping up Heywards value for example but for Albies he's a true 6+ WAR guy.

Im more into basketball analytics than baseball. This isnt about Acuna but a general question. How do you account for effort? Or is it just assumed that throughout time the effort will even out? Therefore you can still get a true grade.
