    2018 July 2nd Signing Period

If nothing else, kinda expect us to go a little nuts with the penalties coming. With $4,983,500 available to spend, we could still sign 16 kids at our max of $300,000/per signing. Still going to need extra bodies not too far down the road.

Acuna's younger brother expected to sign with the Rangers.

I have been told by Fat Ben that the Braves can simply trade $5M in pool money for 3-4 prospects better than Drew Waters.

Hopefully they just do that. It would probably be best to add a few more young FV 45+ guys to the system.

Surely there are a few "Buy Here, Pay Here" car dealerships that would assist in our acquiring higher priced targets?

So, Pipeline and Baseball America have zero reported signings for us. I know we are in the $300k cap right now, but they’ve reported plenty of signings for other teams in the same penalty we are.

Not really sure what is going on. It would make sense to trade some of it if they don’t want to use much. The Reds have been doing that a lot as just landed the Dodgers’ 4th round pick from last year with some money. Kind of strange few days for us in this area.

A lot of verbal deals with Venezuelan players were cancelled after almost all of them tested positive for PEDs. Not sure if any were committed to the Braves

Also seems like we're always notoriously slow in reporting July 2nd period signings.

Not when we got in trouble.

My guess is it's difficult to get legible signatures from the pre-schoolers we are going to sign given the penalties levied against us. Or is that next year?

We're able to use our pool, which is $4,983,500. The only limitation this year is we can't sign anyone over $300k. Next July 2 2019 is where the penalties are really going to hurt. That's when we are limited to signing players $10k and under. July 2 2020 our entire pool value is cut in half, but there's no limit on how much we can spend on an individual players. 2021 is back to normal.

Theoretically, Atlanta can sign players for up to 300k.

AA's interview with DOB suggested that they would not be doing much in international market for the next two years. I wonder if they basically had to throw out all the groundwork they'd laid for this signing period due to lost contacts and broken promises.

It would have been nice if the Braves aren't going to be active to have found some value for those slots. I suppose it's not too late to do that.

All in all I think we will come through this without it hurting too much. I think we need to just sign everyone from Curaçao that's heard of baseball next year.

I like AA. I know he hasn’t made any trades because he wants to evaluate players and because he knows how the penalties will hurt our depth down the road.

Because of that, you would still think we would be in “scour the earth” mode. Albies, Acuna and Camargo were all signed for under $300k if I remember right.

It makes no sense to not sign easily 20 players. We only need one player of the 20 to come through to make it worth the gamble.

I think they will be making signings since they haven't traded their pool money, assuming that MLB hasn't restricted that. Which brings the question: What is their pool next year and can they trade any of it? Also 2020? Anyone know?

Next year the restrictions are much worse. Can't sign anyone for more than $10K I think. So we should spend our pool for this signing period on 10-15 players in the $200-300K range each and next year we should trade it all (assuming we have a pool to trade). It might be we don't have a pool period next year. The $10K and less signings don't count against the pool.

Signings for the players we can afford are not exactly reported promptly since no one really knows much about them.

Should definitely sign every Dominican and Venezuelan left hander next year just to see what happens.
