I have probably been one of the ones most bullish on Newk, partly because Simmons was probably my favorite player.

But I have to say, the improvements he has made this year have made him into what we were hoping he would become....to be truly elite he needs to be able to cut down that pitch count and work deeper into games...once he does that, he is truly a legit TOR pitcher.

yup...7th in the NL...by any measure, he's been one of the better pitchers in the NL this year so far and his FIP is even not very far away from his ERA (xFIP is further, but I think that's more based off of HRs and he's shown at least somewhat of an ability to suppress that, not to the extent he has so far but better than average). Yes his BB/9 sucks and he's likely not going to keep an ERA below 3, but that's only a part of the equation.

Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.

Obviously you want him walking less batters. But walking around the 4.0 mark is still manageable and plenty of quality pitchers hover arpund that mark. Doubtful he transitions into that true ace at the levels he is at, but I think he's going to remain a quality pitcher nonetheless.

Current projections have him coming in right around 3 fWAR for the year. That is definitively #3 SP production.

I've always thought we should try to win Wednesdays and Sundays and break even the rest of the week. That's how I would build a playoff team.

Bullish = positive about the future
Bearish = negative about the future

Now, is there a hard and fast rule as to what day Midnight belongs to?

If we are supposed to meet at midnight on June 2 is that in two minutes or 24 hours and 2 minutes?
