Two relatively easy choices (to me, anyway) for the Braves' Minor League Players of the Month for May:
PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Drew Waters, Rome. Thank God the Braves didn't lose him in the Coppygate punishment. Still only 19, his amazing May got off to a late start due to injury -- he did not play until May 9th. But the rest of the way, Waters hit .325 for the month with nine doubles, two triples and five home runs. In 20 games, he drove in 17 runs and had an OPS of 1.054.
PITCHER OF THE MONTH
Bruce Zimmermann, Rome. Not in any way a heralded prospect, he signed as a college senior for a measly $10 K bonus. He was unhittable in May, amassing a 4-1 record in six starts, good for a 1.72 ERA. Zimmermann struck out 53 in 37 innings and held hitters to a .215 average.
Honorable mention: Kolby Allard (3-0, 1.80)
