    I Love Freddie Freeman

His career SLG and OPS went up 2 points today.

His career averages have been steadily rising for almost 3 seasons. I wonder how much higher they'll go. It would be great to see him keep it going for a few more years.

    Career: Target

    AVE - .293 .300

    OBP - .380 .400

    SLG - .500 .520

    OPS - .879 .900
FFF - BB, BB, 2B, HR, 2B, HR, 1B, BB, BB, 1B, BB, BB, HR

He’s the definition of a player just raking in his prime.

The amazing thing is that he hasn't even hit too many home runs. I expect he'll start pushing them out at a pretty high rate at some point this year.

I wish the Braves would go ahead and try add 3 or 4 years to his contract. He is such a complete hitter I think he will still be good at age 35. I see his career numbers being similar to Fred McGriff.

Shoulda traded him when they had the chance.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Those targets don't add up to the target OPS

And he's an all around good guy. The Braves are lucky to have him. I remember when one was ridiculed for suggesting that he was a better hitter than Jason Heyward.

Freddie leads all NL AS vote getters. Hooray.

He seems to have won his case as one of the elite players in the game. Career averages still going up and he's among the leaders in virtually every offensive category.

    Keep raking Freddie.

I wasn't on the bandwagon as early as some but he quickly distinguished himself as a special hitter in the majors to me. What sets Freeman apart is that he doesn't slump. He might slump compared to his standards or a really small sample size but he is remarkably consistent. The other thing is that Mets, Nats, and Phillies fans fear him like nothing else. Until recently they all would swear he only crushes them and if it wasn't for the damage he did vs their team his stats wouldn't be very good. Freeman is the new Chipper.

Take mental notes about how good you think Freeman is.

Then go look at what Chipper did year after year...while playing 3B.

Makes me realize we all severely underrated Chipper while he was playing...

I don't think anyone was trying to say he was better than Chipper... not that I read.... cajun just said he's the new Chipper. For this generation of Brave's baseball I don't understand whats so wrong about that statement.

There was nothing wrong with it.

I just find myself going back to Chipper's stats whenever we talk about how great a Braves player is.

It always strikes me just how much better Chipper was for a 10 year period, and how I took it for granted at the time.

Yeah. There is a 10 year stretch where Andruw and Chipper were like 3rd and 4th in total WAR in baseball behind Bonds and Arod. You just have to look at that and you'll know why the Braves were so good year after year.

Chipper is criminally underrated. Watched almost every game of his Braves career.

I have long said that Chipper is the 2nd best 3B in the history of baseball only behind Schmidt.

I would give Chipper the nod over Schmidt. Short cut offensive stat fall back is OPS. Chipper .930, Schmidt .908. Both good defensively. Chipper struck out less.

Statements like this are precisely why stats like WAR and wRC+ were invented. Comparing OPS across eras is silly. Schmidt was pretty clearly a better player than Chipper, and it isn’t particularly close.

He was a slightly better hitter for his era, and was a much superior defender.

Yeah I think offensively they were very close. But defensively Mike Schmidt was on another level. Chipper was not a 'good' defensive third baseman. He was pretty average. Mike Schmidt is one of the best defensive 3rd basemen ever.

Chipper is arguably the greatest offensive 3B ever. I discount Arod due to steroids and him being a SS for the majority of his career. That said Schmidt is the best 3B to ever play and then you have the group of Matthews, Chipper, Boggs, Brett, and now Beltre behiind him. Chipper is the worst defensively of that group but man could he hit.

These are basically my feelings as well. I would put Chipper at the top of the offensive list with Schmidt being the best overall. If I had to rank my top 3rd basemen it would be 1. Schmidt 2. Chipper 3. Beltre 4. Brett 5. Matthews 6. Robinson 7. Boggs... But you are right that 2-6 is very close.
