    New Fangraphs Top 131 Prospects

    https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-...pect-rankings/

    Acuna 1
    Soroka 23
    Wright 24
    Gohara 26
    Pache 28
    Riley 40
    Anderson 41
    Touki 51
    Fried 90
    Wentz 92
    Waters 94
    Carter Stewart 98
    Cumberland 99
    Allard 105

Cumberland jumping into the top 100 is certainly interesting, and I'm interested to see Kiley explain it. I'd still take Contreras over him in a heartbeat.

Brett Cumberland on there is odd. I mean he did have a nice 2017 and he's having an OK follow up in 2018, but nothing that's particularly eye popping for his age and level. Definitely a head scratcher as I'd rate Contreras significantly higher than Cumberland at this point.

If there's any shot Cumberland can play a decent C, he could be really good. His offense probably won't suffice elsewhere.

Looking at Cumberland's numbers, his K rate went from 28.7 in 2017 to 23.4 this year. His BB rate went from 8.3 last year to 15.8 this year. He's also got a BABIP of .282 this year, and the FB% has gone from 40.9 to 46.3.

But for a guy to make that big of a jump, Kiley has to like what he has seen defensively from Cumberland. Still feels strange to me.

I'm guessing it's the improved K and BB rates, and potentially improved defense?
catchers develop oddly and slowly and their offense tends to suffer while developing on defense.

Contreras is way ahead of Cumberland imo. Has anybody ever had 14 top 100 prospects before? That’s impressive. I’d put Allard ahead of Fried too.

It is so big. Just a whopper.

FWIW, if Wilson had a smooth transition to AA, I think he's right there at the end with Wentz.

The thing confusing me is that our prospects that have overperformed were rewarded, but those that have struggled weren’t penalized.

There is nothing sexier than a huge list. Can someone please just list out all of the pitching prospects we have for me? Maybe organized to show the different "waves" that will follow year over year?

do you mean solely based on where they're ranked? that doesn't always tell the whole story.
they have wright and gohara trending down, but they both still moved up on the overall rankings.

So, if you are AA....you have to have a trade list and a keep list. Anyone want to take a shot?

Maybe they don't see it as overperforming, but rather living up to potential

My keep list would be: Acuna, Soroka, Wright, Gohara, Pache, Riley, Waters, and Stewart but if the right deal came along I’d include Gohara or Riley

Keepers: Acuna, Soroka, Gohara, Wright, Allard, Anderson, Stewart, Wilson, Pache, Riley, Contreras, Waters, Touki, Weigel

If we get a crazy good deal we obviously should be open to moving anyone. But the guys listed above I would be reluctant to let go. Everyone else is surplus to be used to fill in gaps at the major league level.

The best of the "surplus": Fried, Wentz, Wisler, Sims, Rangel, Jackson, Demeritte, Cumberland, Salazar, Ruiz, Dustin Peterson, Muller. I think those are the guys not on the keepers list that other teams will have the most interest in. The guys on this list should be sufficient to get one of Moose/Beltre/Lowry/Solarte and a bullpen arm or two at the deadline.

Wentz on the trade list? Touki on the keep list? hmm

Wisler, Sims types are a given.

I think Allard would be a guy I would be willing to move and maybe Wright IF a player was available I really loved.

I would be scared to deal Touki...man he could be special.

We don’t need to trade ANY position players...skinny enough as is. We won’t be as lucky as we were with Acuna and Ozzie.
