He really is pitching like it. I'm so much more confident in him now than I was 3 months ago

Well the news is they took him out as a precaution. That is good.

I hope he doesn't have any lingering problems.

But I also noticed that the ump squeezing him, not histrionics on it and just went to the next pitch and then struck the batter out. That seems to me he is getting it. He has the stuff and if he gets the demeanor he can be more.

It is all about confidence in his stuff and his demeanor.

His demeanor is a big one. Seems he's finally getting the mental side of pitching. Also he's throwing his better pitches more often now which IMO is a result of our new FO. His sinker is just not a good pitch and he threw it a lot last year. His slider is his best pitch and is now using is more often. His fastball/slider combo is working out really well.

If he had what Scherzer and Strass have like something like a split/change-up he could be elite. Right now as you said is just a cutter/slider for that "out" pitch.

Scherzer is devastating because of that pitch and we will see it with deGrom as well.

It "seems" to me he's added a tick or two to his pitches as well. Could be nothing, but he's thrown some gas out there.

This is correct. He's added 1-2 mph to both his FA and SI. He has also started using his SL a bit more.

The successful pitching trend in baseball has been more velocity, and more breaking ball usage. Folty is doing both, and the K rate has increased as a result.

His HR rate is still a bit lower than what's sustainable, but it looks like I may have been a year early when I predicted he would become the Braves' Ace.

I think a useful research project would be to look at whether pitchers who add velocity are lower or higher risk in terms of injury...you would want to control for things like age, innings pitched, etc...but my prior is a pitcher who is adding velocity is less risky than one with declining velocity every else held constant

I think he’s gotten used to success and that’s improving his overall approach.
