Will Snitker use Phillips in the right way, or will he become the next Akeel Morris/Dustin Peterson? In other words, Snitker only uses him when he pretty much has to use him (extra innings, huge blowout game, etc).

Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...
Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?
Thats way too ****ing much, especially with all of them on expirings.
That’s way too much, I’m interested in Kela though.
Iglesias
2018 4.5 million
2019 5 million
2020 5 million
Suarez
2018 2.25 million
2019 7 million
2020 9.25 million
2021 10.5 million
2022 11 million
2023 11 million
2024 11 million
2025 *15 million team option
Salary.
Suarez looks like a 3.5-4.5 WAR player in his prime and the Reds made a big commitment to him.
Iglesias is a second tier dependable closer with two more seasons of relatively affordable control.
Trading for those two would be quite expensive and would involve committing yourself to Suarez for a long, long while.
Extremely unlikely the Reds trade Suarez for anything less than a Tex package or more. They literally just inked that new deal like 6 months ago. And according to their GM, they are switching out of rebuild mode starting this winter.
Zach Britton is someone we could target.

In listening to DOB’s interview with AA...I wouldn’t hope for much.
AA is playing it VERY conservative this year. He knows exactly how much he has to spend and it sounds like it is not very much.
When/if he makes a move it will be at the deadline and worth it...which tells me it might not happen.
He knows that although we have a lot of prospects, we won’t be picking high anymore and we will be restricted in International signings, so he sounds VERY reluctant to trade ANY prospects we have.
It sounds much more likely he will spend in free agency, than make trades to acquire talent....which is opposite of what I thought would happen.
I would NOT expect a Machado deal though. He also seems to have a grasp on the reality of us being a mid market team and the restraints that come with it.
I think he will make two or three smart mid level signings, that will end up impacting the team MORE than just signing one big guy like Machado. These signings will also be in the three year range (not ten year), and will not handcuff the team like a Harper or Machado deal.
We have a GM that is thinking years down the road as well as the present. I feel like our last two GMs were only focused on one or the other.
If I had to predict a trade I think it would be much like AA's trades in the past. We'd get one rental, one player who is signed for 2-3 more years and provides value, and one bad contract.
We'd have a guy like McCarthy going back for financial reasons this year.
Not real concerned about that part - Suarez will still only be 33 at the end of that deal if you choose to decline the team option. He's more or less what we hope Riley turns into (with maybe a little better on-base skills and defense) - controlled throughout the term your nucleus (Freeman, Albies, Acuna, Dansby, Ender, Folty, Newk, Gohara, Soroka) is AND still in his prime. You wouldn't be paying for Donaldson or Beltre's decline years, and you'd have PLENTY more money available to spend where your other needs are - bringing Markakis back on a one-year deal or signing another OF, adding pen depth or a veteran SP if AA so chooses.

No need to make big trades. Let's give the kids a chance and see how things okay out. We are on an upswing with all this young talent so we should be better next year.
