We could be sitting at 35 wins without him. There's more to managing that pitching changes. 90% of the job happens off the field.

I don't view the Snitker/Bullpen issue as an either/or as in "either the bullpen is lousy" or "Snitker doesn't handle the bullpen well." To me, it's a both/and as in "the bullpen isn't that good and Snitker makes a number of bad decisions concerning his bullpen usage." The market for relievers has become pricier and that prevents most teams from having rock solid bullpens top-to-bottom, so pretty much every team is going to have a clunker or two in the pen, but our top-end guys aren't what I would call elite so we've had to patch things together (especially since Vizcaino went down). We need a couple of more reliable options out there, but Snitker probably needs to think things through a little more carefully as well.

It’s almost like baseball teams shouldn’t be judged based on 3 game samples. Weird.

Sorry, I was thinking of that year we surprised everyone taking the division from the Nats. It was 2013 not 2010, Gattis was the one getting all the clutch hits that year. Conrad of course was doing similar things in the regular season for Bobby in 2010. The 2013 season will always be remembered for leaving Kimbrel in the bullpen vs the Dodgers.

Braves had been leading the NL in runs scored while getting very good solid starting pitching. They are winning with a losing minor league manager who is bad at managing a bullpen. Y'all make all these excuses for managers like Fredi and now Snit, but don't give the team enough credit. The Braves play good defense, pitch well and score runs at near top in the NL. That is why they keep winning. Acuna coming back and doing well the last two games has helped too. His speed was key on the bases today (getting in at third and at home on the play at the plate).

If AA adds a lefty specialist like Claudio Snit will have no more excuses. But I still suspect many will make excuses for him after he used Claudio vs righties even though they hit .400 or something crazy like that against him.

I think a lot of us don’t think manager tactical decisions are that important. Take today- we still won despite some questionable stuff.

Also, the average manager in the MLB is still bad. I would wager most don’t understand reverse splits or high leverage situations at a satisfactory level. Snit is below average tactically, but he doesn’t seem like the worst

I thought Matheny had a brutally bad series in terms of bullpen management.

As I said earlier, I wouldn't compare the mistakes made today by Snit to how badly he managed that game vs Baltimore. A game we came close to winning anyhow and maybe would've if Wash holds Freeman at third in that 9th inning (not that the top half of that inning should've been allowed to get so crazy). But this sounds like the old Fredi argument all over again that says a manager can mismanage a pen regularly and it has little to no effect. That simply isn't true, the worst bullpen managers cost their teams often and most have losing records. Further, there are some good managers in the game who actually help more often in how they manage their pen rather than hurt (yes, everyone makes mistakes). But I don't disagree that there are plenty of bad ones managing teams that won't go to the playoffs. IOW, those teams usually don't go to the playoffs, but they can if the team is really clutch and overcomes a lot of adversity despite that. If you are near tops in runs scored in your league and get good starting pitching you are more likely to overcome such bad managing, obviously. I'd say we did that in 2013 and are doing so again this year, at least to this point. This team is young, good and really clutch. They score a lot late making for some exciting comebacks.

Yes, he did. That also can help off-set bad managing on the other side. As one manager can give back what the other gives his side. Then the better team still wins.
