    From MLB Pipeline:

"Making his 15th start of the season, Anderson allowed a baserunner to reach second in both the second and third innings before settling in and retiring 11 of the final 12 batters. He struck out the side twice, in the fourth and fifth innings, and punctuated the performance with a pair of strikeouts in the sixth.

Anderson, 20, struggled out of the gate, posting a 7.07 ERA in four April starts, but has improved as the season's progressed. Since then, however, the 2016 first-rounder has pitched to a 2.21 ERA while compiling 69 strikeouts in 57 innings (11 starts). He's completed at least six innings in three consecutive starts and four of his past five turns.

For the season, he owns a 3.17 ERA with 87 strikeouts and 32 walks in 71 innings."

Anderson threw 83 innings last season and hit the 71-inning mark last night. I wonder how long the Braves let him go this year.

His numbers are also better than last year. 10.95 K/9 in 2017 has jumped to 11.03 K/9 after yesterday's start. The walk rate in 2017 was 4.66 BB/9, and he's down to 4.06 now.

all i want is progress from a young pitcher. anderson has been progressing, and that's all that matters.

Exactly. Not sure how folks can continuously preach patience with Touki while claiming Anderson's already a "bust" in the same breath.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Who said that? There are people wanting Touki in the bullpen too...patience has always been a thing for the more sensible, observant, and astute poster. We have those here.

Not sure who is claiming Anderson is a bust. Anderson needs to improve his control. Even his biggest fans say that. It's just a question of how much improvement we'll see. If there's little improvement he'll probably bust. If there's significant improvement he could be very, very good.

It would be idiocy to declare him a bust at his age with no idea how much improvement he'll be able to make to his control.

someone called him a "joker," and i think calling his control issues a "major concern" is certainly lack of patience.

We don't know what they are working on to hone their game, so there will likely be bumps in the road for all of these guys as they move up. People keep forgetting that the majors and the minors are in two different galaxies and the goal is to equip guys to succeed at the big league level and the player development staff works to get guys the tools/skills they need to do that. That is sometimes going to mean some trial-and-error along the way.

your comparison of lucas sims is still a really poor one.
you also called him a "joker." i'm not sure that is synonymous with "bust," but it's certainly a joke to call him that either way.

i believe anderson's velo was up right before we drafted him. someone on FG talks a lot about "new velo" and how young pitchers often have to harness it early in their MiLB careers.

3.47 BB/9 since April to go with the 10.9k/9 and the 2.21 ERA.

Why does it seem there is a negative connotation to moving to the pen? Look at the Yankees' pen... having a top flight pen wins games

Don't read too much into me calling him a joker. It carries no real judgement.

People get way too offended with the Lucas Sims comp. Maybe it's because I was a fan of Sims when he was younger.

Sims never improved his control. If anything, his problems got worse. I do not expect Anderson to similarly fail to improve. I fully expect him to have a better career than Sims. I expected Sims to have a better career too.

I don't know. A top flight reliever has more value today than a middle of the rotation starter.

i'm not offended by the comp. it's just a bad comp. there's not much similar other than "must improve control" which is 90% of young pitchers.

And if you are really good then you will have a chance to turn down 52 million like Greg Holland

With Touki the connotation was always that he would be awesome at it, I think.

Touki needs to get some time in the major league pen this fall. Just to take a look at how it plays.

I have not seen many bust comments.

I think the issues with Anderson are:
    1. He was another pitcher drafted
    2. There were bats people liked better......those guys have not been great by the way
    3. His under slot lead to more pitchers being drafted
    4. Many think his ceiling is too low. High school right handed pitchers are the biggest risk in the draft and many saw him as a 3 ceiling.

I like him fine. I think he'll go out when AA makes his big move in the offseason though.

He won’t be in the pen. Not this year. And hopefully ever. Sorry, I’m not a fan of a putting a guy who is trying to harness his control and gain consistency as a starter in the pen. The Braves have not handled the bullpen management well at all. Leave Touki be!
