WEDNESDAY MINORS FINAL 7/11/18: Braves Release Cabrera Finally

    CABRERA MERCIFULLY CUT

Many Braves fans and player development people alike will spend some time wonder how a pitcher can go from having a 2.82 ERA in the big leagues to having an 11.03 ERA in Advanced Class A ball two years later. Such was the fate of Mauricio Cabrera, who was mercifully released today after 31 attempts to have him show SOMETHING -- anything -- that would hint he was finding his groove again.
He of the 100-mph fastball was 5-1 with the Braves that one MLB season, but his ERA in 2017 soared to 6.20 over four levels of trying to fix whatever it was that was wrong. He showed moments last year, but they were not in evidence this year at all. He failed to retire a hitter in his final outing. Chase Johnson-Mullins was activated to take his roster spot with them Fiery Froggs.

    MEN ON THE MOVE

You might have missed the important promotions that were announced Monday and Tuesday: Brandon White from Rome to Florida, Patrick Didder from Florida to Miss., Luis Marte from Miss. to Gwinnett, Riley Delgado from Rome to Florida, AJ Graffanino from Danville to Rome. Earlier, Gwinnett released SS Tyler Smith, setting off the chain reaction of shortstops.

I'm guessing Austin Riley is in the GCL because Gwinnett is on their ASB and they want him to get at bats but you'd think they'd send him to AA until AAA starts back...
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.

All of this talk about Acuna (and he’s great)...Pache might end up being the bigger star if he has found power.

Ceiling is massive. Not Saying it will happen, but it’s looking at least possible lately.

    1) His 100 MPH fastball

    2) That 2016 season was pretty dang promising

    3) With 50-plus prospects covering 50 years, there was bound to be a whopper or two.

    4) Beats me. Who the hell put that list together, anyway?

His defense is phenomenal. I am just stunned by his hitting improvements. He looked like an American League pitcher having to bat in an interleague game when I saw him last year. I really didn't think he would get to even Rafael Belliard level with the bat.
    Go get him!
