SATURDAY MINORS FINAL 7/28/18; A word about Miguel Jerez

    A WORD ABOUT MIGUEL JEREZ

The 20-year-old left-hander has gone down a familiar path so far. Signed originally to the DSL, he spent a couple of short-seasons as an effective relief, and was named the Braves' GCL Pitcher of the Year with a 2-0, 1.38, with a save. Jerez was made a starter this year in the GCL and has impressed (4-1, 1.78 in 7 starts) with an unfortunate side-trip to Florida for a spot start.
Jerez, fortunately, excaped being part of the ill-fated 2016 from the Dominican by signing a deal officially with the 2015 class thanks to a contract in May of 2016. Most reports indicate his stuff is a notch below top-shelf, but he is a left-hander with control and enough weapons to impress. A year ago, it was said he was not quite top 50 prospect, but he is close enough now to top 30 to be seriously considered.

Another day another Fire Frogs rain out. First game was called at the end of the top of the 4th. That’s 7 games postponed (multiple double headers) this week.

Aw, man, how did I miss that Tony Graffanino’s kid is playing for Rome? I assume he’s Tony’s kid because his name is Anthony Graffanino and he looks like a carbon copy of the old man.

The main thing I remember about Graf is that he hit more warning-track FBs than any Brave this side of Bret Boone.

I watched Bryce Wilson's start...I'd be okay with trading him. I do not believe his stuff will translate to MLB.

It’s a joke. Bad call, Braves.

He was cited as an Anderson worst-case if the latter’s control problems remained unresolved. I didn’t necessarily subscribe to the comparison, but Anderson’s bb-rate was indeed worrisome.

Is it the rain alone or the drainage system at the ballpark that's causing issues? It seems that a couple of games were called because of wet grounds and not rain per se. I know the South has been getting pelted this summer, but it doesn't look like the rest of the FSL is having problems getting in games to the same extent as the Fire Frogs.

Beginning to wonder if Jenista starts out in Mississippi next year if he has a good camp - would allow he and Pache to play together.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Yeah I know at least two of thier games were called due to wet grounds and the rest were rain outs.

Thanks for your comments on Jerez. Interesting that he's repeating GCL this year outside of his one-game bump to Florida (for one of their rare July games). Braves have not had much success with undersized LHPs over the past couple of decades as they all seem to come down with arm problems or stall out after impressive career starts. Here's hoping it's different for Jerez.
