They did well getting Archer and Kela but Meadows/Glasnow is a steep cost for Archer.

I loved what the Pirates got Kela for, but man that is a steep price for Archer. Not a huge fan of that one.

I wish AA got in on that for Kela, thats way less than i thought.

Archer for that cost is steep, glad AA stayed away.

I'm not sure the Pirates are better now with Archer than they were with Glasnow and Meadows.

Agreed. Only thing we missed out on was a 3rd base lefty bat, but hey we can't have everything

Maybe AA has looked in on donaldson and is working and August deal. Who knows. We aren’t hurting too bad right now.

Nice deal, nice deadline. I really appreciate AA’s restraint. We got legit better without giving up anything of note. I kinda had a prospect crush on JCE, but his K/BB numbers are pretty scary.

Absolutely love this deal! Was dreading the return at 1st but I'm absolutely pumped about this deal! Great job with all the deals AA!!! Our team has definitely improved. Let's go win some ballgames now!

Braves clearly went hard for Archer but then Pirates came in and went harder and I don't think we'd liked what it would took to top their offer. Even without the Pirates coming in I think Archer would have cost us a lot. So I am happy AA backed away and made this trade instead of giving up too much for Archer.

    I give him a B.

An A would have required him to do all the current trades, but also adding a LHH for 3B.

The BP additions were also pretty underwhelming, especially considering what some of the better arms were traded for.

Better BP arms, plus a LHH for 3B, in addition to the Gausman/Duvall trades would have been an A+.

Me neither. Especially for 2019. I guess my idea to trade for Starlin Marte can be officially scrapped now. Pirates have officially gone all in for the next 2-3 years.

I was a big JCE fan as well. He just gives you the feeling that the sky is the limit. I still love the deal though.

Kela would have been a nice fit and the price didn't look bad to me, but I have a hard time believing AA didn't know what he would cost when ue seemed to be involved with everyone.

I do think replacing two quad A arms with genuine MLB relievers will improve 4 or 5 of our bullpen slots. It should be an exciting second half.

The Kela trade was the one that I felt AA missed on. To me, at that price, it seems like a no brainer, but can't win them all I suppose

A+ is likely too high of a grade but I like that no real prospects were traded and he made good use of slot money. He did get controllable assets that can help us this year and beyond and we still have all our major trade chips for the offseason too.

The fact nothing was given up of any real value for marginal upgrades isn't a stroke of genius in my book. That is competence by a MLB GM.

They were all good trades, and most of the holes on the roster were addressed, which is why he got a B. In my world view, a B is above average, with a C being average.

Love this deal! Didn't give up a ton of prospect value. Gausman hasn't been great this year, but he throws hard and has a ton of talent. The Orioles made this a bit of a NBA-style trade by dumping bad salary back on us. O'Day can still be quite good if healthy tho, so perfectly acceptable to take him back
