THURDAY MINORS FINAL /2/18: July Players of the Month

PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Gwinnett infielder Luis Marte was impossible to ignore. For the month of July (26 games) he hit .380 (38 hits) with 16 run scored, 15 RBI and a pair of home runs. Marte hit .212 his first two months of 2018, but .350 in June-July. He was moved up to AAA on July 12, In 17 games with the Stripers, mostly batting leadoff, he scorched the IL for a .389 average. Marte, 24, began his career in the Rangers' system at age 17, but was released by Texas on May 13 with a .223 average. Braves signed him on May 23 and his revival began.

PITCHER OF THE MONTH: Left-handed reliever Corbin Clouse. The 23-year-old, stolen in the 27th round of the 2016 draft, was the best on a shaky Mississippi team. He pitched in nine games in July, posting a 3-1 record with a save. He had an 0.77 ERA, 11.2 IP with 19 K and 5 BB.

Clouse has always intrigued me. Love that he is still rolling. I think he got off to a rough start to begin the season but has since righted the ship. His issues are walks now. He has to cut those down before moving up to the big club.

Yeah... there's no way Anderson isn't the pitcher of the month... maybe even in the whole minors.

If anyone was wondering, THAT is what it looks like to dominate in the minor leagues.

Wright and Wilson both make AAA debut today. Against a quality club too.

Touki only had a 1.78 ERA 24k/10 bb in 25 IP, and that looks pretty pedestrian.

I'm suprised he's still here. Now that AA has a season under his belt I can forsee a bit of purging from some players who have underperformed. A lot of our 2nd and 3rd tier guys took steps backwards this year.

Push touki’s numbers back to the start of June and they look better.

Fair enough. We may have had the two best pitchers in the minors in July.

Hard to argue what those two did being down right dominate. And as south pointed out. It made a great month from touki look silly

Two scoreless in June, and three in July - that’s killing it

Nolan Gorman hit his ninth homer today. I was among the group who wanted Carter Stewart over him, but Gorman is off to a ridiculous start.

Lead off single for Pache. 3-3 so far in AA.

Kyle Wright is going to never make his AAA debut apparently with the Atlanta area suddenly relocating to the tropics. /s
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.
