Hey Mississippi- I'm gonna try to go Saturday too. My little 12 yo's favorite pitcher is Folty. Come by the chophouse before the game and I'll buy you a cold one.

At this point there is simply no reason to not offer Markakis a QO in the off-season. If he accepts, then fine - you see if he can replicate this season. You have Duvall as a plan B on the roster if Nick reverts back to his old self. If you still want to pursue corner OF, you have the option of moving Acuna to CF. If he declines, you get a first round pick.

Any advice for a suntrust virgin. Tickets and parking are handled. There is a battery parade at 4 something. Meh. Softball homerun derby at 6ish. Probably be in sears for that. Then game. What are the things I have to experience tonight other than a JT no hitter.

This isn’t exactly how draft pick compensation works. They will get a pick around 45 if he signs for more than $50M, and a pick around 75 if he signs for less.

I’d be surprised if he signs for $50M or more.

You think he declines the QO if offered?

Seems like he can do better in guaranteed money, though probably not for a single season.

I think an early third compensation pick (essentially) plus the extra first would give the Braves a chance at a nice deep draft class, which they need. Or it could offset the cost of losing a pick.

Might consider just reupping with Markakis on a 1+1 but you really need to be careful if you want to. I suspect he wants a 3 year deal and if it is that, I tell him thank you for your services but let's mutually part.

I think he has gained something from the lift and celebrate era but he didn't suddenly morph into 24 year old Nick Markakis, I think his season next year would probably be more on the lines of .290/.370/.410-.420.
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.

Yeah he'll be 35 in November, and this is arguably his best or 2nd best season at the plate ever. Would not at all surprise me if he was busted for something. I'm all for giving him a QO, but even a 2 year deal scares me

Honestly, for a 2 year deal I would be comfortable with, he would be better off taking the QO.

But many he gets 3/36 from Orioles or something?

Ah yes. You’re right. Compensation rules have changed.

Nevertheless, general point still stands. No real downside to the QO.

The downside is that QOs must be offered at the beginning of the offseason. If Markakis accepts that completely rules out adding a player like Pollock, or trading for another cOF.

The Braves almost certainly will not offer him a QO. He will sign late in he offseason for a 1-2 year deal, so the Braves can sign him late if needed without taking the risk of limiting their options early.

How do you figure what is a qualifying offer?

Yeah, I think it would be a mistake to bring Neck back.

Take this beast season and move on.

I look at Markakis All-Star season so far similar to Kemp's with the Dodgers. I hope Markakis finishes better this year than last and thank him and move on.

Neck accepting a QO from us would be a terrible start to the offseason. The only thing more unlikely than him having the year he is currently having is him repeating it. Sign Grandal and Flowers, trade for a good corner OF, and evaluate the 3b/ss market.

I would rather have Muk back on a one year deal for 18M than a 2 year deal at approx $15M per year.

I mean sure, but with our resources of cash and prospects we should do neither of those options.
