I just hope the Rockies win the west and we hold the 2-spot. Let the central winner play the WC winner between central loser and dodgers

The Phillies look like they've packed it in for the season.

Braves beat Mets and gain ground on both the Cubs and Dodgers, who both lost.

Braves now 2 games back of Cubs, and 1.5 games up on Dodgers.

Brewers are only .5 games back of Cubs(1.5 ahead of Braves) in Central, and Rockies are .5 games back of Dodgers(Braves are 2 games up) in West.

Addison Russell has been placed on Administrative leave by MLB because of domestic abuse charges. That hurts the Cubs, loosing their SS.

Yeah, they're either going to have to rely more on Daniel Murphy/Tommy La Stella or try Happ at 2B. If any team can absorb a loss to their starting SS and still make it work, it's the Cubs with their depth and versatility.

I'm actually beginning to wonder if we have a distant shot at #1 in the NL now. A week ago I would've thought the chances at that were slim and none but now I'm not so sure, Cubbies really struggle with Pirates pitching and they're going to play what will be a desperate Cardinals team next, given that the Brewers have been pushing them around this week.

edit: Although the Brewers also play in here too, so it could just mean if the Cubs continue struggling that the Brewers finish 1st.
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.

Right, if it were just one team to catch, I think we would have a shot at it. The fact that there are two teams makes it extremely unlikely.

Cardinals magic number to be eliminated from the division race is 1.....and unless my math is off, they are eliminated from catching the brewers in the WC

If the Cubs lead the division and the Brewers are 2nd and the Cards aren't eliminated from the division how can they be eliminated from the WC?

why? winning previous games has no real bearing on winning the next games or not.

eh if you win like 12 in a row, i think you're due some losses.

We could have a double playoff scenario where the Dodgers, Rockies and Cards are tied. I believe in this kind of scenario, the Dodgers and Rockies have a playoff to see who wins the division, then the loser players the Rockies for the second wild card. I'd love to see those teams burn up their pitchers in this kind of situation and then have the survivor come to Atlanta.
