All that tells me is that they’ve been extremely fortunate this year. Teams out perform their Pythagorean W/L a great deal some years, and others they underperform. Pretty sure the manager has a negligible effect on that. Was Gabe Kapler a great manager up until mid-August? Conversely, is Dave Roberts a bad manager this year?

Cubs' bullpen really stinking it up. Pirates score 2 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th to tie it. Jaime Garcia arrives to stop the bleeding for the Cubs.

Kapler has used position players late in games more than others skewing those numbers a bit. I never said Roberts was a good manager, he is another I would say happens to have a very talented team. They can buy and trade for any top player they want. So yea if they don't win the division that takes some really bad managing too.

Like jpx7, I'm not a big believer in Snitker, but we had our fair share of injuries, inconsistent performance, and turnover all year long and he kept things rolling.

Not really, pretty much every team has as some injuries much like we did, we were fortunate that Acuna didn't miss more time etc. Culberson doing what he did in place of Acuna is thanks to our top notch hitting coach helping him change his approach at the plate, now much more relaxed approach. Culberson said this himself. But getting back to injuries and such, when you bring that up I would argue that fits the Nats season but not so much ours. It was among the reasons the Nats never got going this year IMO.

The steady-hand for a young, surprise-performing team is yuge. He may not be the tactician the Braves need going forward, but I absolutely think he aided, rather than hindered, the Braves’ tank-to-title regular season performance.

Or bad managing since they have a large payroll and a bunch of superstars like the Dodgers, right?

I think he means position players pitching in blowouts, throwing gas on a fire, turning blowouts into even-more-skewed conflagrations.

Not sure how relevant that is, though.

injuries being among the reasons doesn't even speak to how good or bad their managing this year. But i will add that i agree with some of the criticism in his direction.

no it has just made it look even worse as others have noted (including their announcers).

I was among the first here to post saying their terrible defense might be their downfall in the second half. I thought it would've been earlier though and when it wasn't I started thinking well maybe this would be a really lucky year for them. But all that has been corrected the second half, and it even got worse with Cabrera playing short etc.

Some have pointed to Santana playing third hurting the Phillies on defense, but actually he hasn't been an issue. His DRS was 2 at third. So no real negative effect in a small sample. But pretty much everyone else has been bad for them and Santana playing first has meant Hoskins in LF and that didn't work.
