Another one of those RP Starter games. Castillo has pitched 2- 2 inning stints in last 10 appearances with a 2,23 ERA

What do you guys think of these bullpen games? I don't really it would work over a full season, but TB has been doing it- and as someone said last night, very well. But as Glavine said- I think it was him- maybe it was Frenchy- there's a reason nobody else in MLB does this... seems like an interesting concept to me.. especially if you had the BP depth in AAA to actually do it..

The reason nobody else is doing it is because when someone is the first to do something they are, by definition of the word "first", the only ones doing it. Whether or not folks like Glavine and Frenchy understand it is irrelevant.

    The logic is completely sound...

BP arm faces the top half of the lineup. The traditional SP faces the bottom of the lineup, and then the entire order twice, totaling 20-25 batters.

It allows SPs who should not be facing good hitters a 3rd time to only face the bottom half of the lineup a 3rd time, thus extending the number of batters they can face effectively from 18 to 20-25.

Being able to manipulate the 10 day DL and sending pitchers up and down to AAA is very important with this strategy.

The Braves are set up very well to do the same thing with their depth of good-not-great young SPs.

This is exactly what I was hinting at.... seems like we would be unusually well positioned to try this out.... not real sure how our SPs would like it....

I predict the next evolutionary step of this strategy is that teams will use is as a way to make it more difficult for the other team to optimize their lineup to get the best platoon matchups. To be able to do this a team will need to set it up so that on any given night they can choose their second pitcher from either a lefty or a righty and make the choice based on the opponents lineup.

Gio gives up 2 out 2 RBI single to pitcher, 2-0 Phillies. Wild pitch after a single and hitting Joey Bats set it up. Total gift really.
