because of how the Dodgers lineup shakes out and the fact we will be going with 4 righty starters I think we will carry a 4th lefty in the pen...Freeman or Fried, both of whom looked good today

Yeah I think I'd take out Carle and put in Freeman. I'd also probably take Lane out and put in Duvall, despite Lane having a good game today. I would prefer that we roll with a 4 man bench, but if we go with a 5 man then Lane would be the next guy up.

I think only one of Lane and Duval makes the roster. I like having a pinch runner. But if Duval gets hot the last week he will probably get the nod.

I have my doubts on Toussaint unless they were planning to have him start a game.

I know there is the whole "experience" argument, but I would almost rather have Toussaint pitch a game 4 over Teheran or Newcomb.

No doubt.Plus to me he seems like a better bullpen option then Julio or Newk in case a game went extra or needed a long man.I think Julio’s velo issues would hurt him and Of course Newk can’t throw strikes consistently.(Even though Touki has his own issues with that as well)

No No No No No. I love the guy- I think he'll have a great career- but Touki is a better pitcher.

Can't be sentimental when choosing the guys for the post-season roster. You have to go with who can help you win that particular series. Sometimes a guy who has made a big contribution during the regular season gets left off.

I agree. With that said, if dodgers are opponent, you have to consider newcomb. I'd give him a start this week and see how it goes. If our mind is made up and newcomb won't start in playoffs, use him in relief this week to see how that goes

Outside of Allard who had one good game and one terrible game, Newcomb has been easily our worst starter the second half. He has a 5.06 ERA in the second half and a 6.08 ERA in Sept (worst on the team) and was recently skipped in rotation. I wouldn't call that earning his way onto the postseason roster. If he makes the roster it will only be because they might gamble on him repeating his prior success vs the Dodgers, if we end up facing them. If we face Colorado I don't see him even getting considered.

Fried only gave up one run in 5 innings vs them too. They might consider Fried instead of Newcomb if they want a lefty.

The Dodgers are stronger against right handed pitching. So I think we want to bring at least 4 lefty pitchers in the pen. Maybe Newcomb should be one of them. Maybe he should get a start. Otoh we have some other options. Fried pitched well today. So did Sam Freeman.

That drive to straight away center was a mistake and Freeman was fortunate that stayed in the park. Hit to deepest part in CF.

I would agree that Fried was the more impressive of the two today. He could end up beating out Freeman for a spot. I think both will get two more pitching appearances in the Mets and Phillies series. One possible permutation is to take both Fried and Freeman and drop one of Carle and Winkler. I think those guys are all on the bubble.

I think Venters, Minter and to a lesser extent Biddle are safe among the lefties.

Among the righties Brach is safe. Viz too if his should is ok. Sobotka I think is on the bubble. He's looked impressive his last couple appearances, but the lack of track record means it could go either way depending on how he pitches the rest of the way in. I think he also will get a couple more appearances before the season ends.

Fried would likely have stayed with the team and started most of the year if healthy. I know the injuries are frustrating, but Fried is absolutely a top 5 pitching option on the team, at least IMO.
