Talent only gets you so far. There also needs to be some form of ‘everyone is on the same team’ but you also need talent to win.

Guess that’s why Dabo, Swinney , and Brian Kelly to an extent are so good. They built winning teams from the ground up. Developed a culture versus the USC and TA&MU way of just going after free agents

I think OM realizes next year is probably the best opportunity for a playoff run. With no Bama, UGA looks like the only likely loss at this point. But I think it's unlikely this plan is sustainable.

The playoff committee justifies taking Bama over FSU by saying it's about taking the best four teams regardless of record. They then rank UGA 6th, behind FSU, presumably saying UGA is worse than FSU. UGA is a 17.5 point favorite in the Orange Bowl against FSU.

    Make it make sense.

Not staying Georgia should have made it. Just saying the committee is full of it. If Georgia is 6th then you're not going by who is best and FSU should have made it in. If you actually go by the best you have to have Georgia in it.

Personally I think FSU should have made it and Bama shouldn't have. You win a power 5 conference while going undefeated, you should make it over a team with a loss.

UGA is a 17.5 point favorite largely because FSU is without Jordan Travis and their back-up Rodemaker just entered the portal.

Yep. Spreads after transfer/nil seasons don’t mean much.

Bowls have become really really irrelevant

If committee saw FSU as a lesser team after Travis went down, they should have started to bump them down weeks before

FSU w/o Travis isnt one of the best 4 teams in the country. Bama won the SEC and the only loss was to Texas who is top 3 in the rankings. Cant leave out Michigan and Washington since both are undefeated. Rankings wise, it's hard to defend Georgia being 6 and FSU 5. Next year, when the CFP expands, it wont even matter anymore. Teams can lose 2-3 games and still make it in, kinda makes the regular season pointless in a way.

IIRC, Travis went down for the year before the final rankings were announced. So they ranked FSU without Travis ahead of Georgia.

The playoff rankings were a joke.

Yes, because FSU is undefeated and UGA has 1 loss and didn't win their conference. If Rodemaker were playing and other players weren't opting out, FSU wouldn't be a 17.5 point underdog. The spread would likely be 3.5 points, which is basically a toss up. honestly, it probably would be a toss up. The SEC was really down this year as a whole, including UGA.

FSU should have been in the final 4 anyways, but Bama bias being what it is kept them in.

The SEC champ is getting in.

That is just a fact of life. 1 loss, 2 losses, doesn't matter and they'd still likely be favored.

I'm actually 100% fine with FSU being ahead of Georgia. I just think that if they are then they should be ahead of Bama too. Either you rank based on resume or you rank based on who is the best. The current rankings do neither of those.

The playoff committee justified Bama over FSU by saying the rankings are about ranking the best teams in the country. Only an idiot would put FSU ahead of Georgia at the moment in ranking which is the better team. However, as you note, FSU has a better resume being undefeated and a conference champ. So it's FSU over Georgia because of resume but Bama over FSU because Bama is better? Just be consistent!

And UGA opened as a 13.5 point favorite over FSU even before the opt outs. And it now looks like Georgia will be without Bowers and Mims (two likely first round picks) and yet Georgia is now favored by 20. There's no way around the fact that Georgia was better than FSU when the final playoff rankings came out.

Again, I have no problem with FSU being ahead of Georgia, I just think you either have to put FSU ahead of Georgia and Bama or behind both.

FSU's starter was out before the final playoff rankings and their backup opted out well after the initial line was posted. The FSU that the playoff committee ranked ahead of Georgia was essentially the same one that Vegas had nearly 2 TD underdogs to UGA.

There's no argument that Bama is better than FSU while Georgia isn't. Georgia beats Bama with even officiating. So the committee clearly wasn't ranking teams based on who was the best like they said. So my only real point is the playoff committee is full of it.

    Did you watch the game?

In any event, I don't think Bama should be there. I would have put FSU in. I don't think you can lose a game and get in over an undefeated power 5 conference champ.

College Football hasn't yet figured out a good way of determining a national champ.

Because after 4 it doesn’t matter. No reason to argue FSU vs UGA when it wouldn’t matter.

    Yes.

Georgia fans certainly got spoiled quickly.

They did. It was happening for years in FCS. They just let the bowls run the show instead of common sense that has now (starting next year) taken over. Having less than 5 spots for 5 p5 conferences was always gonna be a dumb idea.

Me too. Beating LSU in Baton Rouge is no easy task. Next year should be good for the Rebels as well as for college football fans.
