AA has a poor reputation around high school coaches for a few of his past picks/no signings.
I don't have enough information to dispute what the Stewarts are contending, but if Carter didn't sign, he was likely to go the JUCO route at any rate to be eligible for the 2019 draft. If there is any medical issue at all, I doubt he would risk waiting three more years for draft eligibility.

Too early to say. We have to see what we do next year.

Gorman made full season A ball as a young 18 year old by doing what he's always done - mashing the ball with his LH swing and playing reasonably good defense.

Prospects can always bust and he certainly could but he's a clear example of scouts overthinking. He went from one of the top players in the draft throughout 2017 to having all these loosely defined question marks by the time of the draft in 2018 - nothing concrete, just a lot of cold feet exhibited by scouts when it came time to put their reputation on the line (I think this happens a lot).

Smoot's right though - still too early to say.

Gorman wouldn't exactly be the first highly thought of major name to blow through rookie ball during his first season (at the end of his full season BTW) to stumble as he begins to see similarly talented levels of competition.

As you mention, it sure looks like a lot of people made a mistake at this point - but if we somehow wound up with the combination of Witt and Hinds (especially when we can use a few prospects to sprinkle in at the lower levels with the international penalties about to hit), it will be awfully tough not to be thrilled with the way things turned out (and I was one of Gorman's most ardent supporters around here).
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

FG had him rated #7, and STL got him at 19.

There's certainly a reason the Cards seem to produce a lot of MLB talent, and correctly identifying "baseball players" over "tool sheds" may be a big part of it.

I wouldn't draw many conclusions over 167 good R PAs and 107 mediocre A- PAs though.

In hindsight I would have taken Gorman. Our farm system is gonna drop like a rock soon. Our lower levels suck.

The time to win is while these players are cheap. When we are paying Acuna or whoever we resign we will need cheap players to fill in to keep winning. With the international sanctions and picking lower we are going to have a hard time replenshing the farm. Beyond that as abperennial contender now we might be trading prospects every year.
