Puig would be horrible from an example standpoint for Albies and Acuna and Camargo

Is he really a better pitcher though? I think a lot are just down on Teheran because we remember all the jacks he gave up. I'll put it like this - I'm not giving anything of value for him. Paying to get Gray and then trying to unload Teheran is not worth what it would cost for what might be a minimal performance boost. Here's last year's stats:
Pitcher ERA IP H HR ERA+ FIP WHIP H9 BB9 SO9 WAR Teheran 3.94 175.2 122 26 102 4.83 1.173 6.3 4.3 8.3 1.8 Gray 4.90 130.1 138 14 89 4.17 1.496 9.5 3.9 8.5 0.6

Gray “could” be better than Julio, but that’s not a given.
Honestly I’d rather see Fried, Soroka, Touki, Gohora, Wilson or Wright.
Unless we get a top of the rotation guy, Let the young guys pitch. Anything else feels like a lateral move.
This offseason is getting boring, come on AA! LOL
Yes.
Julio .217 BABIP
Gray .326 BABIP
ERA is very misleading here.
Also Gray did have ace numbers on the road in 2018. Not that I'm one to say that's what he would be when getting out of Yankee Stadium but that place elevated his HR/9 and BB/9 numbers. He has also increased his K/9 the last two seasons from what he was doing earlier in his career. I'd honestly look at his half season with Oakland in 2017 as a baseline of what you'd likely expect from him out of Yankee Stadium.
You can't use last year's stats as a proxy. Before he was a Yankee he was a 3+ WAR pitcher with one bad outlier year when he had injuries... considering his stats away from Yankee stadium fall in line with his usual stats and it's a very hitter friendly stadium how can you honestly use last year?

Neither Gray, Puig, or Porcello help this team. Puig could only because of the vacancy on the roster at the moment. The arguments are moot because all of these guys are mediocre.
That was one of the most boring and uneventful winter meetings in recent memory. If things don't break soon we'll end up having to wait for January for the offseason to really get going.
