AA was on Sirius XM yesterday, here are his comments

    AA comments on Kimbrel:

“He makes everybody a lot better,” said Anthopoulos of Kimbrel. “He’s one of the best closers of all time. I did come out early in the offseason and, not speaking specifically about him, but [said] our payroll, our model, I don’t know that us spending big, elite dollars on a reliever — length, the term and all that — I don’t know that that model works for us.”

“From a bullpen standpoint, A.J. Minter, Arodys Vizcaino did a nice, solid job for us,” said Anthopoulos. “…Hopefully, a young guy like Minter can take one more step. I think having a healthy Darren O’Day is going to be big, and then some of the other young kids that really took a step and had a nice year have a chance to continue to contribute. But, there’s no doubt if we can get more talent, more experience — especially at the end of the game — it’s going to slot everybody down. That’s definitely something we’ve explored, both in trade and free agency.”

On talks with Mariners for Paxton, Diaz:

“At the end of the day, we had the ability to say ’yes,'” said Anthopoulos of those talks. “We got a price on players like that. We’re definitely going to be ’in’ on those guys. … I think, at the end of the day, we really feel strongly about the talent that we have. We put some good young players on the table in deals. I think maybe where we hit a bit of a snag in some of these things is just the volume — and that’s where we do pause, and we kind of pump the brakes a little bit.”

If AA signs Keuchel but passed on Pollock and Grandal then he needs to be strung up by his balls.

I think we can carry another bench bat and that would be my preference. Also not in love with Duvall or Culberson.

Would have been nice. Pretty perfect fit actually, but probably would not have liked the cost.

the cost for paxton didn't end up being that high.

injuries and whatnot have a way of wrecking plans...but as things currently stand, here is how PT might reasonably be parcelled out

LF: Acuna (132 starts), Duvall (30)
    CF: Inciarte (140), Acuna (22)
    RF: Muk (130), Camargo (32)

    3B: Donaldson (150) Camargo (12)
    SS: Swanson (95), Camargo (60), Culberson (7)
    2B: Albies (150), Camargo (10), Culberson (2)
    1B: Freeman (155), Camargo (7)

    C: McCann (80), Flowers (72), Lopez (10)

    Total starts for Camargo (121)

This doesn't count the starts at DH that will be parcelled out.

If Dansby can't hit well enough to give up almost 70 starts then the Braves need to find a different answer at SS.

Camargo is not a great solution there.

I could see the Braves getting by with a 4 man bench for the bulk of the season.

They will likely add a 3rd tier BP arm for good value at the very least.

All this hope for that big trade just about to happen never really materialized, and folks are understandably disappointed. Pushing JTR (perhaps plus an arm like Steckenrider, maybe Straily) across the finish line would change the narrative immediately, but I don't see any other realistic trade scenarios remaining that move the needle at all.

A Zobrist trade or a Marwin signing would help deepen the roster.

AA has completely failed this offseason IMO. Donaldson was a good pick up, but not enough to get us over the edge...

We won the damn division last season, but instead of making us better, we were stagnant...

Wasting all that payroll on Donaldson looks really foolish here.

think he'd fit real nice as another guy with versatility and would add nice depth.
I honestly wish we would've upgraded the OF with the JD $, kept Johan at 3rd and signed Marwin for super utility.

I think we improved. But not enough imo. I would have liked a little more risk taken This off season and less old guys manning starting rolls.

It just feels like a clear ‘punt’ to me. We can maybe make the playoffs but no noise.

Camargo started 122 games in 2018

Getting ~120 starts out of him plus pinch hitting appearances should get him plenty of PAs. Having ~3 WAR super sub would really strengthen the bench.

Everything depends on price of course but I feel safe in saying Gio > Anibal in 2019.
