Trading Ender has always made a tremendous amount of sense IF the FO had signed or traded for 2 legit cOF (and Markakis can't be one of them). If they had signed McCutchen and Brantley at similar AAV of what they got, instead of sitting on their asses and settling for Markakis, they could have then had the flexibility to trade Ender either as part of a JTR move, as part of a Kluber move, or as a stand alone move designed to re-stock the prospects somewhat after a different move sent some prospects away. They could have picked up a Matt Holiday for the bench and occasional OF duty for $1.5M, kept Duvall as your primary 4th OF.

But that would have taken a PLAN going into the offseason, one I don't think the Braves had outside of stay within a flat budget, try to grab some bargain plays that you hope will pay off, pray that the young guys miraculously develop (which would be 2 years in a row it happens which would be like throwing 7's back to back (it could happen but the odds are against it)) and do just enough slight of hand to keep fans interested and away from the man behind the green curtain.

    You could have had:

    LF Brantley
    CF Acuna
    RF McCutchen
    1B Freeman
    2B Albies
    SS Swanson
    3B Donaldson
C McCann/Flowers OR JTR assuming that you trade for him.

Then you either trade Inciarte as part of the JTR trade or to Cleveland for one of their starters (let's say Kluber) or to Cleveland for prospects, or to some other team in need of a CF. Worst case, you trade him along with Teheran to move Teheran's money even at a diminished prospect return for Inciarte.

Sure, Acuna's defense isn't Inciarte level. But, it wouldn't have to be with two legit OF on either side of him. AND, for nuance, his lack of comparative defense in CF would diminish his WAR from where it would be in RF or LF which should impact his cost a bit over the years.

Keeping Inciarte was a lazy move borne out of a lack of imagination.

My mistake if that's the case. But it doesn't really change the argument any. Acuna CAN play CF. Not as well defensively as Inciarte true. However, the rest of it more than makes up for that. And since the two best position prospects the Braves have outside of Riley are CF, both 2-3 years away, then Acuna moves to a corner once one of those prospects are ready, just as one or both of McCutchen or Brantley moved on.

I would trade Ender, Flowers and one of Gohara/Wright/Tehran (you never know)/Fries. If that happens, make an offer for Harper. Why not?

Trading Ender for JTR only opens another hole. Completely counterproductive. I'm over JTR unless it's at good value. Trade spare parts for Castellanos and hope they take JT to balance money. Sign Gio/Kuechel for 1 year. Go to war.

If AA signs Kuechel with his comp pick cost he needs to be fired immediately.

Trading MLB players for MLB players rarely improves a team overall in the present enough to make sense. That’s why almost every single trade is prospects for MLB players.

Reorganizing MLB talent may be imaginative, but it usually isn’t helpful.

Well the talk of us being in on Joc Peterson would make sense if we trade Ender. I'd rather trade Riley in a JTR deal. If you do trade Ender, i'd rather it be in a potential Kluber deal, then get Peterson.

    Acuna CF
    Donaldson 3B
    Freeman 1B
    JTR C
    Markakis RF
    Peterson/Duvall LF
    Albies 2B
    Swanson SS

If they sign Harper (which won’t happen), but if they did ...I would expect a ton of movement. Probably trade Ender, Newk, Wright plus for Kluber.

Probably trade Anderson, Wentz, Flowers plus for JTR.

If they sign Harper that means Liberty has given the ok to go for it.

Also pigs might fly...but until it doesn’t happen...it “could” happen right??

I think I want Inciarte traded. Only for the fact...Snicker will have him lead off...it’s enough for me to say let’s move him now while his value is high. I feel his bat will only decline as we go on. I like Ender, just not the way we will use him.

Regarding Anderson, even if you move him you still have Gohara, Wentz, Muller, Fried, Soroka, Touki, Wright, Wilson, Tarnok, Allard, etc. Still plenty deep along with Folty, Newk at the big league level.

I'd prefer Anderson/Ender if only we add another outfielder. Riley and a lesser pitcher isnt bad but we arent gonna keep all these pitchers and alot of them will be big league ready soon so gotta do something. Also not sure how much we improve moving Ender and gaining JT.

As for the possibility that we sign Harper, I will say that the longer this goes, the better the chances are. I think it means nobody is biting at 10 years. If it gets down to 5 years, we could be involved.

What last year would suggest Snit will bat Ender at leadoff over someone more capable??
Yes Ender started the year at leadoff but was moved down after he struggled and better options emerged. Ender was buried deep in the line up until Ozzie had his struggles at the end of the year.

Ender is owed 16 or 17 million over the next two years and will probably accumulate 4 to 5 war over that period. How do replace that kind of production for that amount of money? Getting full value for Ender would be tricky because most of his value is tied up in defense.

I’d move Inciarte and Anderson if it meant keeping Riley

@CraigMish I am not necessarily saying that I am in favor of this particular package. Just asking your opinion if this would get it done. Inciarte Anderson Bryse Wilson Realmuto Steckenrider

Yes. BUT I think the Marlins will have to come off Inciarte/Camargo type to get it done w ATL. At this point not sure what the point is of a ML player anyway. MIA should take Anderson + a top 100 (Pache/Waters) & something else and call it a day. I'm speculating.
