I personally think Sixto is destined for the BP. This wont look so good down the road. But...it is for just 2 years so....probably not that bad.
Anthopolous made the first major signing of the offseason (Donaldson) well before anything happened on the cOF market.
I think people are being ridiculously low on Donaldson, who is a fairly good bet to be the best hitter of the free agent class in 2019.
3B in my opinion was a need and the combination of Donaldson, Markakis and Camargo on the bench is better than most of the alternatives, I've seen.
I think Alfaro is pretty valuable. As you noted 2.1 WAR last year. He has a bit of a pedigree, having been rated a top 100 prospect at various points coming up. Five years of control left.
Lets say he puts up 1.5 WAR per year during those five years. We're talking surplus value of about 5 WAR. In dollar terms about $40M.
I think this is a tremendous trade for the Marlins.
"I am a victim, I will tell you. I am a victim."
"I am your retribution."
We can only judge these trades based on what we know now...not what we know 5 years from now.
Right now, we know the Marlins got a Top 25-50 prospect with true impact potential plus a long term replacement behind the plate for 2 years of JTR.
We know that's exactly what they were holding out to get, and they were able to do so because they had AA's offer in their back pocket.
It's disingenuous to call this anything but a well played move by the Marlins, and they leveraged AA as a tool to help them do it. Sixto is better than any pitching prospect the Braves traded for during their rebuild, and you guys were gushing over every single one of them back then (remember all the times folks made an annoying list of pitching prospects so they could drool over it?), so trying to minimize his value now reeks of homerism.

It is worth repeating that AA has spent 30M to acquire 6 expected wins this off-season. $5M per expected win.
Without losing a prospect. Without losing a draft pick. While potentially picking up a draft pick in next year's draft.

Tough not to be disappointed in what feels like a lack of willingness to make moves to improve our team. Perhaps I don’t know enough about our depth to understand.
Perhaps I don’t know enough about Donaldson, but Camargo is one of my favorite players, and I’m disappointed in not seeing him at 3rd on a regular basis.

Bowman's latest...how coincidental...he had this written a month ago I'd wager...

Now that the JTR saga is over hopefully AA has a backup plan for another upgrade somewhere.
Mish: Multiple sources inform me (which will soon be denied) that the Braves final offer to the Marlins for Realmuto did include 3B Austin Riley but "not much else." Miami preferred the Phillies package of Sanchez with Alfaro, and there you have it.
AA sucks ass.
Bowman is basically saying that we are done making moves. Man they set the fans up for a big disappointment imo. Mac isn’t what he use to be and Markakis shouldn’t have been brought back at all with the money and prospects we have available.
I think we are more like an 88 win team at this point. Acuna is being undervalued by every system. They all have him at about 3 WAR. There is also value in having 5 near major league ready guys in the rotation in Gwinnett that is not fully reflected in the projections for the major league team.
Plus I think AA has left himself with a fair flexibility for some move at the deadline or late off-season/spring training.

Right when we are out of it,think of the additional pitching prospects we will get for Donaldson McCann and markakis
I’m taking the under in 88 wins....probably closer to 78-80...the Mets Phillies and nationals are all a hell of a lot better. We won’t run over them like last year..which means again being committed to mediocrity and a mediocre draft pick the following year

Well, after we get over the fact that AA was used as a pawn by Jeter to get a nice return for JTR, the Braves can still make a 1-2 moves.
I have them sitting right at $114M with a hole on the bench and/or BP...perhaps in the rotation, but unlikely.
Expect to see them grab an arm like Romo, Madson or Norris fairly soon.
Trade for Frazier? Sign Marwin? Gio to fortify the rotation?
There are certainly still some lower profile additions to be made.
