But the smartest person on this board insisted MadBum was exactly what this team needed to push them to becoming true WS contenders.

    I said no such thing.

Folty is due TJ as I predicted when we got him, I figured it might come this year or next given his past elbow issues just before the trade with Houston. Not hard to figure though, very common nowadays.

    Klaw scouting report up.

Riley struggles with heat due to poor bat speed and started cheating third at bat.

    Julio looks terrible.

Pache is great. He hits mid 90s no problem.

    End of reporting

Bat speed as it relates to speed the bat is moving at contact is a different thing than how quickly a player gets the bat to the point of contact.

Riley can generate plus bat speed but take a long time to do it. This would cause him to be a guess hitter and be a possible explanation as to why he goes from 4 Ks in a game when he guesses incorrectly to hitting well the next day when he guesses correctly.

I still think I’m the low guy around here on Riley. I think the K rates are going to be a real issue at the MLB level.

Predicting a high velocity arm will need TJS at some point isn’t exactly a hot take haha.

I've not seen Riley in person so I'm going to withhold judgment until then. That being said, KLaw is about the only guy citing bat speed concerns with Riley.

Also, usually poor bat speed isn't demonstrated with struggling against a fastball. It's struggling against breaking stuff. A hitter doesn't do what Riley has without being able to catch up to a fastball. It's being able to wait long enough to recognize offspeed where bat speed is revealed.

So I do want to see Riley myself.

Still frustrated we didn’t deal Riley this offseason. Wish I could see what everyone else who likes him sees.

Wright can go to AAA. Fried is our ace.

The bat speed observation is probably subjective until there is some stat cast data to back it up. I agree with the guess hitting take.

What’s more concerning about Riley in my opinion is that he is getting reps at 1st instead of the outfield. If his future is 1st base then he needs to be traded now.

This shouldn’t be a surprise. He’s been someone who needed to improve tremendously to project at 3b.

And he’s always had really big k numbers that were concerning.

JD is getting huge money to play third this year. If Riley is ready to contribute at the plate he'll need defensive versatility to see the field.

Riley is still pretty young. I think he will progress and be a good player. He just needs time. I’m not sure he will be a star, but could very well be an above average player. He needs another half year or so in AAA...injury set his progression back.

I’ve consistently been pretty low on him as well. I prefer Waters Pache, and Contreras as our position prospects and would have been fine trading Riley for any meaningful upgrade this winter and this summer as well if some team shows they are high on him.
