Not saying we should sign him to a big deal. Depending on what other moves we're discussing, Kimbrell on a short deal makes some sense..

Half of the marathon would be wind-aided; very wind-aided. I don't want to think about the other half.

Yep. Our rotation is going to be horrendous next year.

Yeah I'd say overall as a player not much difference between Harper and Camargo last year. Outside of 1 year, Harper is ridiculous overrated. The point is wasting a chunk of resources on a closer who may be declining when we already have relievers that are solid would be incredibly stupid

Kimbrel's 2017 looks like an outlier at this point. His FIP fWAR the last 4 seasons

    1.5
    1.2
    3.3
    1.5

IMO his days (like he was in Atlanta) of being a consistent 2+ fWAR reliever are over. And if you pay him like he's going to be that guy then it's a mistake. The real question is how you view Minter going forward because we have a pretty good idea of what Kimbrel will be.

Almost sounded like last years mentality. I got it last year. We were coming off a bad year, new front office had to learn players and we took on bad money so we didn’t have to pay Kemp this year.

This year is supposed to be very different. Are we going to hang around 500 and hope some team sucks and panic dumps two impact guys?
Seems like a solid plan if the alternative is committing too much money or too many prospects to an unsatisfactory solution.

There would be people running it. I did run the Boston Marathon in the most brutal weather of its history. 40 degrees, driving rain to the face and 30 mph winds. Many of the elite runners dropped out. It was my one and only shot at Boston so I finished. An experience I’ll never forget. Sorry about the hijack.

Also how did he have bad luck last year? According to BABIP against he actually had some of his best luck ever with a .218 (.260 career)... or is this just one of those cases you chose to not look at the stats and just ramble off what you thought happened. But it's clear his 2018 was not influenced by bad luck as you claim.

Trading Newk and Fried and 2 more guys for MadBum, and then extending him for 6 years would fix it though.

    Right?

Gausman improving his poor walk rate with the Braves would also help.

    Right?

I don’t know how fangraphs and bref grade pitching differently, but their K/9 and WHIP aren’t even close.

    Daily JTR talk.....

Jan. 31: Talks involving Realmuto have reached “advanced stages,” reports Frisaro, though he also reports that there are still four clubs alive in the bidding: the Padres, Reds, Dodgers and Braves.

Last night, MLB.com’s Jon Morosi tweeted that the Padres are currently a bigger player than the Dodgers in the Realmuto market, though with a quartet of suitors still in play, it stands to reason that the perceived “favorite” can change quickly. Frisaro notes that the Rays and Astros have all but dropped out of the bidding at this point.

    All right, I'm bored.

    So, here goes:

ATL trades Inciarte, Camargo and Allard to Cleveland for Kluber

ATL trades Anderson, Wentz and Jenista to the Dodgers for Pederson

ATL signs Adam Jones 1 YR $8M

ATL signs Matt Holliday 1 YR $2M

ATL signs Derek Dietrich 1 YR $3M

ATL trades Teheran plus $6M to Texas for C/1B Sam Huff

    ATL cuts Duvall

    Net payroll add about $18M

    Gives you:

    CF Acuna
    RF Markakis/Jones
    LF Pederson/Holliday
    1B Freeman
    2B Albies
    SS Swanson
    3B Donaldson
    C McCann/Flowers

Bench: Jones, Holliday, Flowers, Culberson, Dietrich

Rotation: Kluber, Folty, Newk, Gausman, Toussaint

Pen: Viz, Minter, O'Day, Venters, Biddle, Winkler, Carle

I don’t see the Reds getting JTR. The FO said they wouldn’t overpay for anybody and are comfortable with what they have. It’s a 3 team race imo.

There is absolutely no way two years of Joc Pederson would cost Anderson, Wentz and Jenista.
