Why isn’t Guyer in a Braves uniform yet?
His bad 2018 still saw him post an .804 OPS vs LHP. His career OPS vs LHP is .823. He is exactly the cheap 4th OF the Braves need.
Stop wasting time with Duvall and Joyce, and get Guyer signed.

Surprised Gattis hasn't been signed. He's still a quality bat for an AL team in need of a DH.
The Marlins just released Straily. i'd love to check in on him.
Straily sucks and doesn't offer us an upgrade. He's just more depth. I'd rather give starts to young guys who need the experience than a veteran #5 starter.
Yeah that's a no on Straily unless it's a minor league deal. Always nice to have depth, but I'd rather see what the young guys have.
The only reason to sign Straily is so another team can't pull him off the street and have him throw a shutout against us the next day.

Gotta have some dead weight to anchor to our prospects to grease the rails in trade talks. Financial flexibility.
Sort of funny being an optimist, relative to the board, after so many seasons of being labelled a pessimist about the team. But just as I think so many overreacted to the quality and ostensible rapidity of the rebuild, I think that same many is overreacting to the “quiet” offseason and its ostensible lack of quality.

I remain optimistic despite my grief with FF. I think I learned from the last regime that warning flags usually mean “warning”. I tried to excuse them with Coppyfail. Won’t with FF. The article were he said they could spend money doesn’t mean they would spend money put me over the top. Couple that with not signing their top pick and having another grievance filed. Even with the knowledge we won that and Stewart might in fact be hurt. The lack of report from them is disturbing. Then to fire the two directors months a before the draft. Again without word. And now when defending a NL east championship. You ignore glaring holes in your roster. And still ignore them. I wish FF would have just said that he did not think that championship was real and he needs more time to evaluate the team as a whole. Instead he feeds the fans financial flexibility and he will surprise you.

I was critical of the Stewart fiasco; and even though it looks like it will work out in the Braves’ favor, it still speaks to a lapse in due dilligence. How much of that is on Anthopoulos, versus the recently departed farm guys, is hard to parse.
Otherwise, I think Anthopoulos was quite shrewd with his midseason moves last year, in a surprise run to the Division Title. I think the Donaldson and (to a lesser extent) McCann signings are underrated moves around here; while the retention of Markakis, in lieu of a real upgrade to cOF, is both understandable and distasteful. I can’t fault Anthopoulos, however, for refusing to trade draft capital for short-term, high-dollars deal for aging pitchers, as so many seem to be doing—particularly in the context of the confluence of importance for this year’s draft (the Stewart hiccup, the upward trajectory of the team, and especially the persistent international sanctions he inherited). Trading that draft capital for Pollock would’ve been more defensible, but still risky in multiple ways.
Not a perfect score, for sure; but overall more positive than negative from my vantage. I’m willing to withhold real judgment, though, until Anthopoulos works through at least one full year with expectations under his tenure.
