You may be right about missing the playoffs, but that wasn't really important for me since we had no shot to win anyway. What was important was to find out who REALLY is a rotation arm for the future and who needs to be dealt for the right pieces to actually contend. Gausman had a bad walk ratio for us, too. I can appreciate him for what he was worth, but he's not the type of guy you want starting in a playoff setting.

    LOL, another pearl of wisdom!

Name all the MLB rotations with a proven 2-3 win SP at the back of its rotation...

You could pawn off JT to the Diamondbacks if you take back Greinke or something similar... I made it clear it was unrealistic, I just said I'd only want Gray if he replaces JT and we got a better starter to go with him. There are plenty of creative ways to potentially get rid of JT. Whether they work or not, is another question entirely.

Gausman has been worth about 8 WAR over the past 3 years. That is not a back of the rotation pitcher no matter which way you look at it. He's a solid middle of the rotation pitcher. He gave us 50 innings of sub-3 ERA pitching after leaving the toughest division in baseball. There is plenty of reason to believe that he'll be a solid 3 win pitcher for us next season.

WTF are you talking about? Since when is 2.7 BB/9 a "bad" walk ratio? I'm pretty sure that was the best BB/9 of any pitcher in our rotation last year. The only guy that was even close was Anibal. You're just wrong here.

The pearls just keep on coming!

This genius was able to determine who "REALLY is a rotation arm for the future and who needs to be dealt for the right pieces to actually contend" based on a sample size of 4 playoff games! Gausman threw 2 whole innings!

Oh, and a BB/9 of 2.7 is above average for MLB pitchers. Try again, fool.

Speaking of pitching, what is the deal with Jonny Venters? I haven't heard anything about him this offseason. Is there any thought to bringing him back? I'd be happy to have him. He was great while he was here.

I thought Venters was under control one more year but now it seems I was wrong?

Maybe Spotrac is wrong and he is. Right now it says he's an unrestricted FA.

I just haven't heard anything at all on him, which seemed odd.

Another potential move that means the Ms have no desire to tank in order to cut payroll, and will almost certainly not be dealing Haniger.

Venters is under contract via arb 1 more year, projected to get 1.6 million. Deadline is next Friday to tender players.

BRef has his earliest FA date as 2020. MLBTR projects his 2019 arbitration salary to be $1.5M.

I'm going to guess the Braves control him for 2019, but his extensive injury history may have complicated his service time calculations, so who knows for sure.

So what if Camargo was offered instead of Riley.

Not saying I would want to do this at all, but he would surely carry more value than Riley and Riley would be a viable replacement that should perform at a similar level.
